I am presently attending Oakham School in Rutland, where I am studying A Level courses in Geography, Business Studies and Biology. I am looking to combine both Geography and Business Studies within a degree course that will allow me to further immerse myself into the social and physical processes that affect our rapidly changing world. I grew in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, and have closely watched the economic progression of this city. I am intrigued about the entrepreneurial opportunity and growth that the Emirate provides, in spite of its extraordinary pace of development.
My recent work experience at the DHL Global Business hub in Dubai, allowed my to get an even closer perspective on how this is happening. I find it interesting to observe how the UAE has embraced the challenge of the oncoming slow down of oil production, and has had to refocus its priorities towards diversification, whilst being aware of the impact that this will definitely have on its own the fragile environment. I want to explore further, the ever-changing, delicate balance between business, the natural environment, and human impact. I am an energetic outdoor person. Sport is very important to me as it provides an important balance between education and physical wellbeing. I enjoy taking part in activities that push my abilities, both physical and mental. I love rugby, and currently represent Oakham school in both 15’s and 7’s. I have participated in rugby tours to France, Wales and around the Gulf. I really enjoyed the self-discipline of regular team training and the challenges to maintain the standard required to ensure first team standards. Outside of school, I immerse myself across a number of sports and particularly enjoy the self control, persistence and determination required in triathlons. The opportunity to make a direct impact within communities and cultures from other countries, has always been a key interest for me.
In 2016, I was part of a team, that worked to rebuild local community schools that had been destroyed in the Nepal earthquake. I spent a week at Mt. Kailish school which had suffered catastrophe damage. It was truly fulfilling to see how a seemingly insignificant amount of work had such positive impact within the community. I have also worked as part of a South African game park environmental team, tasked to collect and enter data on the Animals in the reserve, and tag and remove poachers bullets from large male Rhinos. It was rewarding to be able to directly understand the environmental impact of poaching and to be a small part of the efforts to combat the problem. Closer to home, as part of Voluntary Action, I work one day a week in an Oakham based charity shop. I am very much looking forward to the next level of challenges that university has in store for me. I believe I have the capabilities not only to achieve a good degree but to progress at a personal level. This would act as a foundation for any future success in my business world.
