My Interest in Public Relations as Major

I am an international student interested in applying for a public relations major with a minor in psychology. My interest in public relations as major come from the fact that it has a great impact on today’s society. Public relations professionals have great influence on how the general public acquires information from business organizations, the government, and other information sources. I think that type of work is important and this will open up opportunities for me to be the best in this field.

Personally, I like to develop the right skills to effectively communicate meaningful information that could improve the standard of living for everyone. I really like the idea of being an invaluable member of society. I think being an effective public relations professional would allow me to motivate other people to do the right thing, raise awareness on important issues, and promote ideas that could revolutionize our way of living. Public relations professionals are known for their creativity and inventiveness in devising effective communication strategies. I think it is important to be both a great listener and communicator in order to succeed in this profession. A public relations major will help me develop values that would not only make me an effective liaison, but also help me become a person with integrity, honesty, and compassion for other people. As a student, I have always challenged myself. Even with such a demanding curriculum and a very busy schedule I find time to develop many skills. I think of myself as a well-rounded person with a vast interest. I think this is an important characteristic when taking public relations as a major. I always liked to experience new things and travel to new places. My experiences have built my character and broadened my perspectives in life.

My hobbies include playing the piano and snowboarding. I have also trained in jazz dancing for eight years which is proof of my dedication and discipline. I love dancing and I think that even though it is a different form of communication it is still equally important. I love to see how my passion in dancing will translate to my passion in becoming an effective public relations professional.

Aside from public relations in general, I also have a special interest in being an event manager in the future. I think that my wide interests and fun-loving nature would be a great help in achieving that goal. The idea of being able to affect the atmosphere of a place and the moods of many people is exciting for me. I also have great people skills which helps me to create meaningful relationships with my peers and elders. I am a good listener and communicate well with other people. I think this will be great for pursuing a psychology minor. But psychology for me is not just a way to understand people but also a way to be able to help them. I really would like to help special needs children. I think I could do that by making dancing a form of therapy. It will be a great idea to combine my passion for dancing and my interest in teaching in order to help the children. I have even contemplated taking graduate studies in education because of this interest. My biggest dream is to be able to go to a nonsectarian college. For the past three years, I have always wanted to go to (UNIVERSITY). I think that (UNIVERSITY) will help me achieve my goals. (UNIVERSITY) has a great curriculum and values the same things as I do. I will really be honored if I get accepted.
