My Motivation to Work in Public Service

Ever since I was a child helping others was something, I found happiness in. Being able to make someone laugh, helping my friends with something they are struggling with shows them I care. In today’s world where technology is growing, and it is getting easier for people to be separated. But, being able to spend time with your friends, family or just people that are in your community and serving them can be one of the rewarding decisions you can make. When you open the door for someone, asking someone how was their day? Seems like small gestures but it will have a positive impact on you and them. For my service project, me and classmates walked around our school and picked up all the trash that we saw on the ground. That will not make someone happy right then and there and you will not feel in a positive way. But when the next day someone is walking around our school and they see how clean it is that will make them happy. Picking trash is not even a big gesture and it does not take that much of your time however; this small gesture can make your surrounding look nice and this way you are also serving your community.

People are more likely to help someone on the same day when someone else is being nice to them. When you treat one person with respect, they will also give the respect back. Even though, we are all grown up hearing about the importance of serving others but when you serve others it will bring you joy. Public service can make an induvial person happy and it has a major domino effect on others. You can improve the world, one day, one person and one act of kindness at a time. Public service can bring communities together. For example, I will go to downtown Detroit once a month with my church youth group to handout food to the homeless people. We volunteer with different groups of people who are from different nationalities, but we come together to serve others. This strengthens our relationship with each other. Serving others can provide a healthy boost to our self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. Everyone in this world needs help and everyone in this world can provide help to someone they know. Starting with small gestures like smiling and asking someone how their day is? To donating money or providing shelter to someone can leave a huge impact on them.
