I believe I am one of international students’ to be selected in your prestigious University, because I possess the right skills and innate knowledge to successfully execute my two years Masters’ degree program in Nursing.

I possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Lagos and a Master degree in Public Administration from Lagos State University both in Nigeria. Am presently a Procurement Officer with Lagos State Government in Nigeria and am keen in career switching. Caring for the needs of people, assisting the hopeless are what I enjoy doing. Am a compassionate and determined person. My working experience with Society for Women and AIDS in Africa – Nigeria Chapter (SWAAN) had given me exposure and interactions with HIV positive patients to have empathy. While teaching Biology in Ojota Senior Secondary School, my excellent communication and analytical skills was well harnessed and I groomed my SS3 students in preparation for their final class exam and entrance examination into the universities which resulted in ninety-five percent (95%) passes of all my biology students in their examination. Also my volunteer experience with Bankole Medical Centre and my acquired skills and knowledge had broaden my horizon in the nursing field and will enhance my efficiency as a nursing student.

I am a hardworking person with a strong attitude for achieving set goals and objectives. I am a compassionate person, am a quick learner, a regular listener. With my vast experience in caring for my hypertensive parents (Dad is an eighty-two year old seizure patient and mum is 70years old bladder carcinoma patient with dislocation on her left humerus), I take them for their clinic appointments, ensure they take their drugs, prepare their meals and make the home comfortable had taught me how to care for the elderly which prompted my interest in adult nursing. I would like to care for the aged because in Nigeria, lots of elderly are hypertensive and there had been an increase in diabetics patients due to starchy foods which is eighty percent (80%) of Nigerian meals.

As a Procurement Officer with Lagos State Government and an HIV Counsellor at the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa, I had the opportunity to co-lead and manage teams that advised on procurement procedures and HIV/AIDS policy. For instance, I was an integral member of the team which ensured best in-practice procurement and due process during the Synagogue Church Building Collapse in Lagos. Here, I had specific responsibilities for procurement of protective wears, test kits and implementation of Lagos State Government Procurement Standards. The benefit of working with the Lagos State Government and Society for Women and AIDS in Africa has given me good perspective, knowledge and exposure required to handle complex public, private and non-governmental organisations aimed at improving lives and promoting humanitarian objectives, hence my interest in switching career to becoming a nurse. This will invariably equip me with the capacity to engage in international studies.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, there had been an increase in mortality rate of pregnant women due to lack of good healthcare and shortage of qualified healthcare professionals. Most pregnant women do not register in standard health facilities for ante-natal care. They attend trado-medical centres where quacks are involved in the delivery of their new born babies. Also, with the advent of the new Coronavirus pandemic, Ebola virus scourge in Year 2013 and increase in infectious diseases, the need for an increase in Healthcare Professionals globally is alarming. Compassionate, Dedicated, determined, friendly and service-driven personalities like me are needed to join the healthcare professionals to salvage the world’s health sector or healthcare industry. Am particularly interested in becoming a nurse to join the team of healthcare professionals to save lives. Also, I would like to develop into an adaptable, flexible, reflective, competent and compassionate health practitioner since there is a dynamic and fast changing health and social care system. I have a keen interest in health and social care. As a nurse assistant who did volunteer with Bankole Medical Centre and working with registered nurses to care for critically ill patients and providing nursing care to patients, I have come to understand the importance of ethical standards of confidentiality, accountability, autonomy, justice, informed consent, anonymity, and veracity. I will bring these standards to bear if am selected to study and in my new career as a nurse. I am confident that my knowledge gained from professional studies and prior work experience makes me an ideal candidate for the nursing class.

Upon graduation as a nurse, I will uphold the advocacy of the code of conduct of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria by analysing, counselling, responding, shielding and whistleblowing activities in clinical nursing practice which integrates aspects of individuality, professionalism and experiences of empowering, exceptional care for patients’ needs and wishes.

Furthermore, I was in-charge of Government Covid 19 stimulus package Food distribution during the lockdown to local government officials and community development association executives. I supervised and monitored the distribution of the food to the masses and take daily stock with record keeping of database. My interactions with the masses prompted me to initiate fund raising to Unilag TACSFON Alumni group for those that are currently unemployed or those that into daily earnings. As the Welfare Secretary of the group, I informed the house through our whatsapp platform to privately communicate with me if they are finding it difficult to feed their family during lockdown and I encouraged everyone to donate into the group’s account to assist colleagues.
