From the time I was inducted into National Junior Honor Society in seventh grade, I had always dreamed of the day when I would walk across the stage to become a part of National Honor Society. I have been continuously determined to do my very best in every aspect in terms of character, service, leadership, and scholarship. Considering this, I believe I have all of the qualities that make a person more than eligible for this organization.

Character has always been something in which I deem important. To this day, I am still influenced by the saying “be safe, kind, respectful, and responsible,” as we were always taught in elementary and middle school. I believe all of these traits are essential to the building of one's character, especially my own. I have always made sure that my choices, thoughts, words, and actions are admirable. Ways that I have done so include following rules inside and outside of school, whether it’s in the classroom, at work, during sports, or at home. I feel that having a good character allows someone to improve their ability to achieve different everyday tasks or goals which may seem difficult. This is why I believe character coincides with the scholarship pillar of National Honor Society. Ever since I started school, I have held myself to a high standard to do well and my determination to do so has always been favorable. My determination causes me to be devoted to my grades and keeping a high GPA. It also leads me to challenge myself in certain areas such as taking AP and Honors classes. I have been a part of the Principal’s List and High Honor Roll from the very first quarter in sixth grade until now. Without the trust my family, friends, and teachers have in me, I wouldn't have the drive to do well in school. I believe that all of the devotion to my character and my scholarly traits shows my worthiness to be a component of National Honor Society.

In my years of middle school and high school, I have been involved in at least one sport every year. These sports have allowed me to exercise my ability to be a leader, whether it was on the court or field. Having leadership in something special such as a sports team gives me a sense of belonging, which helps me to bring those leadership skills elsewhere such as at clubs in school or even at home. I myself have three younger sisters, ages ranging from three to fifteen years old. Being the oldest out of those three has also helped me to strengthen my leadership skills. I feel as if it is my job to be a role model and set good examples for them. My leadership skills are also taken outside of school and home and put to use during community service. As a Girl Scout of almost thirteen years, I have had many opportunities to volunteer in different ways. These opportunities include taking part in stocking food and toiletry shelves at a social services organization, and the buying of presents for the less fortunate at Christmas time. I have also volunteered at events such as the Castleton Community Fair on my own. All of these service opportunities have helped me to better connect with the town and community. While in the midst of all these events, I realized how rewarding it was to me to give back to the community and be a help to others. Having said all this, I believe that National Honor Society will give me the chance to exemplify my leadership skills and to be a part of even more events in which I feel rewarded during the process and also in the end. Being considered to be a part of National Honor Society gives me the satisfaction of knowing that all my hard work has paid off throughout the years. I believe I can take all of these qualities I possess to this organization and possibly strengthen them even more.
