My experience at the Museum was a very enjoyable moment for me, and I hope to visit again son. My step-ma drove us to our destination, which created a good bonding time and made the experience even better for me. When we first entered the downtown area I was actually confused about which building the Museum was a part of and we ended up in the parking garage of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Once we became aware that we were in the wrong parking garage, we began making our way to where we needed to be, the right museum.

Once walked up to the building we walked into the first room and were presented with a pleasant greeting by the two women up front. I made small talk a couple of the employees, which sparked an interesting conversation with them both, and they both became interested in my class assignment. I explained that I had no particular area I wanted to start viewing first. During my short conversation with ladies upon entering, I was told that with my student ID I would get a discount…who doesn’t love a discount?

I was so anxious to be around history and beautiful piece of artifacts, what my feet took off before my mind could catch up. As my step-ma and I walked curiously around the building admiring the art, we were constantly greeted with smiles. The more we explored the museum, I noticed with quick observation majority of the employees were from different countries. Employees from Asia all the way to Africa. While my mom and I walked around, we got turned around and confused as to what part of the museum we were in. If an employee noticed that we were lost they would offer to help guide us in the right direction.

My first stop in the museum was the Audrey Jones Beck building on the first level. I viewed art given by Jackson Pollock, Severin Roesen, Christian Edward Bottcher, etc. The first piece of art that caught my attention was a piece called the “Victorian Bouquet” by the artist Severin Roesen. Severin Roesen was an American artist born in Germany in 1815. The artist used oil on canvas to create this beautiful work of art. The “Victorian Bouquet” showcases a wide variety of flowers and fruit.

So many things were synchronized in this piece. I noticed that Roesen’s painting show cased life, and physical comfort. It contains roses, tulips, forget-me-nots, peaches, pomegranates, and a simple glass of wine just to name a few things. What I love most about this work is how realistic, and beautiful he painted the flowers and contents of the picture. The rich and bright colors that where chosen in contrast to the black background really create a beautiful scene.

The second portrait I found was in the same building as the first painting that I viewed by Severin Roesen. The artist who caught my attention was Christian Edward Bottcher. Edward Bottcher was a German artist who lived from 1818 to 1889. The name of the artwork was “Summer Night on the Rhine” which was created in 1862. The artist chose to use oil paint on canvas.

It contained medieval castles, picturesque towns, friends gathered under a beautiful tree, and a vineyard sloping down the side of a hill. The Rhine valley is an extremely romantic scene which was captured perfectly in this artwork where there is an exciting, charming, and nostalgic get-together. Laughter and happiness spill from the canvas and it makes you want to be a part of the celebration. The moonlight sets the perfect shadowing and colors to reflect the mood of the painting.

What I found to be charming about this scene is how all 15 or so men are trying to court the women and are giving them flowers. It is almost like an extremely large match-maker party. Another fun thing about this picture is where the party is taking place. You can quickly tell that they are all from the upper class because of their dress and the castle that they are beside, but the party is under a big tree with a table underneath. A chandelier is tied to a limb of a tree with rope.

The last portrait I viewed was in the same building as the other two. Christian Edward Bottcher was the last artist to catch my attention. Bottcher was a German artist who lived from 1818 to 1889. Another fun thing about this picture is where the party is taking place. It is not hard to see that these individuals are from the upper class, because of their dress and the castle that they are beside, but the party is under a big tree with a table underneath. A chandelier is tied to a limb of a tree with rope. This is a very exquisite oil painting and I sat and wondered at its detail for a very long while.

This experience was so enjoyable, I have already recommended a few of friends and family to go visit this museum. There were so many beautiful and extraordinary pieces of art I felt as if I was taken back in time. The feelings and emotions that I felt while in the museum is indescribable. I love that an establishment like this exist in the city of Houston. This trip was a great experience I will be going back.
