MyBurgerLab, a brand famous with handmade burger patties and homemade charcoal buns that makes Malaysia feel glorious. Chin Ren Yi, 31 is founder of myBurgerLab where Teoh Wee Kiat, 23 and Cheah Chang Min,28 is his partners. Their beginning plan are to open cafe and sells foods in the cafe. But none of them know how to cook well so at last they decide to make burgers. They though that make a burger depends on its ingredients and not the cooking skill. The origin idea of myBurgerLab business is when Chin Ren Yi went to United States work and he noticed that the trend of fast-food giants (such as McDonald’s) isn’t popular like before. In America people are willing to line up places like In-N-Out and Shake Shack as other hamburger retails enter the market. Those America burger retailers use fresh ingredients to prepare food to their customer when their customer orders. This concept known as ‘made-to-order’.
So, they inspired by America burger joint and think that Malaysia also should also have its version and change the Food & Beverages industry in Malaysia. They try to imitate these restaurants are doing things and put in myBurgerLab own concept. They also search online about different burger recipes and finally found a recipe to make a fantastic burger. They also found something that unique, Black Charcoal bun as their trademark. After the product is complete, they decide to do a test in a restaurant before opened. Red Bean Bag in Solaris Dutamas give them a chance and let their product sells in his restaurant. They received many positive comments and reviews which says, “You should open you own shop”. So, they decide to open a physical shop.
MyBurgerLab was born at Seapark, Petaling Jaya on July 10, 2012 which start off by three owners and another three investors with a capital about RM200,000, they need lot of money to make the shop they rented more beautiful. They come Seapark because the rent is low enough. Even though the shop is old and very high traffic location, but they able to make profits too because they are selling a fantastic burger. For shop’s decorations, one of a friend, Pax free charge to help design the interior design which able to let them save money. They also avoid getting financial from bank and received help from friends. Next, they also come Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lunpur which are high-traffic location and the rent only about RM8,000 and RM9,000 per month.
