National Science Day is celebrated in our India on 28th Feb each year to remember the discovery of the “Raman Effect” by our Indian Physicist Sir. Venkata Raman in 1928. For this discovery, Sir. C.V.Raman was awarded the Noble Prize in physics in 1930.National Science Day is celebrated with great passion all over India on 28th Feb every in order to salute and honor the invention of Raman effect by an Indian physicist Sir. C.V.Raman on the same day i.e. 28th Feb 1928.The first National Science Day was celebrated on February 28, 1987.In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) requested the Government of India to celebrate 28 February as National Science Day then Govt. of India accepted and declared the day as National Science Day in 1986. Raman Effect is a wonder in spectroscopy discovered by the famous physicist while working in the laboratory of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata.
Raman effect is change in the wavelength exhibited by some electromagnetic radiation while travelling through a transparent medium and getting deflected by the molecules present in the medium.
When a strong beam of visible or UV light illuminates a gas a liquid or transparent solid a small fraction of light is scattered in all directions the spectrum of the scattered light is found to consist of lines of the same frequencies as the incident beam called Rayleigh lines and also a certain weak lines of changed frequencies. These additional lines or weak lines are called Raman Lines.
Each year various themes will be chosen for national science day celebration. And the main objective of the national science day is to provide a chance to the citizens of the country to grow up, also to discuss the issues and implement the new technology for the development of the science. The main aim is to bring all the citizens together to celebrate the growth of science and technology in the country and to spread a message about the significance of scientific application in the daily life of the people.
Students of the schools and universities exhibit various science projects to demonstrate their latest researches. The celebration also includes public speech, exhibitions of science movie, science exhibition based on themes and concepts, radio-TV talk shows, live projects and researches demonstration, debates, quiz competitions, lectures and more activities.
National Science day is a day celebrated all over the country to make awareness towards science and technology. It’s an honor and recognize all the current scientists and researchers. In schools, colleges and universities various activities and camps will be organized to make the people to understand the significance of science and technology. Future of India, the youth remains the very important aspect of national youth day.
