Ned Kelly was a villainous person. He could have chosen to be a trustworthy civilian, but instead he chose the life of crime. His name is now remembered in human history as a man who is still a mystery. The reasons behind his actions have been disputed in current times if he is a villain or a hero. Ned claimed that the government had done this to him, and that this was not his fault. If his words were true, then why would he have decided to rob banks for fun, steal horses and cattle, and attack innocent policeman.
Ned Kelly’s actions as a bank robber prove that he had villainous intentions. Some have argued that Ned was drawn into a life of crime because of his impoverished upbringing. Petty crimes may be excused for this reason. However, his bank robberies were all planned out from start to finish. Ned would had several people involved in his criminal actions and would hold people hostage until the robbery was over. The main cause of this, was because he put his greed and self-interest above the needs of innocent people. Ned Kelly thought of himself as a very important person, his final words on the Jerilderie letter were “I am a widow’s son, and my orders must be obeyed”. Based on the evidence, it is obvious that Ned Kelly was no more than just a villain who craved power and money and would do anything to gain it.
Ned Kelly was very infamous for his horse and cattle theft. At the beginning of his bushranger career, the Kelly Gang began an undercover business, stealing horse and cattle, then changing their brands to illegally sell them. In the book, “Black Snake”, readers learn that Ned Kelly created a hideout in the bush, and illicitly stole hundreds of horse and cattle as he hid from the law. Horses and cattle at that time were a very expensive investment and to carelessly steal that would’ve have ruined the lives of many. This could only be an act of a villain.
Near the end of his bushranger career, Ned wanted to make a massive setback in the police force by de-railing a train full of policeman. Ned wanted for this to happen, because he was tired of being on the run for nearly 2 years, and he was frustrated with the authorities for not publishing his “Jerilderie Letter”. He wanted to go against the authorities and the law and make his stand remembered by all and feared by the government. He attempted to kill more than 20 police officers and nothing can justify this act of murder. It is impossible to refute that mass murdering is nothing but a villainous action.
Ned Kelly was the most cunning and vicious villain Australia has seen. He destroyed the lives of many through murder, cattle stealing and bank robberies. These acts are truly villainous and only Ned Kelly was capable of performing them.
