The Use of Science to Support Negative Propaganda

Science is a fascinating thing, which is basically the only thing able to justify life itself. Science can tell someone every reason why or why not they should do something, why or why not they shouldn’t do something, and why they are even here! Although science is generally looked at as a subject used to learn about blood types and do chemical experiments, it goes much further than that. Everything we do on the Internet is basically wide open for the Government to see. How they want to deal with it and what they want to make of it is entirely up to them. Since a few of the large media corporations are powered by the US Government, they can basically feed us whatever they want and have the satisfaction of knowing that their country will believe it.

Until very recently when discussion came about, I think most can agree that most American’s did not know that the fresh fruits and vegetables they were purchasing at the grocery store were genetically altered to be more cost and time efficient to produce and consume. After finding out, many Americans decided to switch to buying organic and locally grown food at a slightly bigger cost. Although many continue to do so, it has been said that it is a conspiracy; most “organic” food people buy is not locally grown or not genetically altered, but just said that it is.

Due to the fact that most people cannot test this idea of food being locally grown and “organic”, they are believing what is written on the packaging and paying more for the food they could buy at a lower price at the grocery store near by. People are buying into what they are told because they believing it is right! Telling a group of people that the food that a certain company produces is made with no GMO’s (genetically mutated organisms).

Many people are very well against GMO’s since they strongly believe that they cannot be good for our health since they are an unnatural substance. Although GMO foods are not completely natural, people are strongly against foods containing GMO’s in the sense that since they aren’t natural they aren’t good for our bodies, which can be true for people who have allergic reactions to the substance. Also, since GMO’s have only been around for such a little amount of time, people argue that no one knows that any long term effects of them are since we have no way to figure that out until we ourselves see what happens in the future. Along with that, one of the largest controversies about GMO’s today argues that since some GMO’s have antibiotic features added to them so they are resistant to diseases an viruses, this causes them to make our bodies less effective to actual antibiotics medications since we have built more of a immune to them from the GMO’s in many of the foods we could be eating (Colbert, 2014).

Basically, since this information has been released to the outside world and people are starting to figure out what actually is in the food we eat, the government is further promoting how although GMO’s induced food is safe to consume, organic food is even better. By hiking up the prices and making an entire country start to believe that locally grown and organic is better, us consumers are fooled into buying into this propaganda. The government took what they had to do to survive the disaster of the media coming in and showing the world the real side of fresh food we buy and consume everyday.

In the movie, “Europa, Europa,” a similar tactic was used to target the Nazi’s into letting a Jewish boy survive. By convincing them that he wasn’t Jewish, and was actually German and on the side of the Nazi’s, the teenage boy in the movie was able to survive the holocaust where he would’ve been otherwise killed.

As you can see, science is used today to support negative propaganda in the US in a multitude of ways through social media. By hiding the facts, and then hiding the truth, the United States as a government is able to sell consumers anything by making them buy into this propaganda they are trying to sell us. We honestly may never know the truth behind so many things in our country due to the fact that the US government has such high stakes in hiding much of the truth from the public, but what we can know is that we shouldn’t believe into everything we hear on the media.
