Overview of Joe Biden's Participation in The 2019 Democratic Debate

When asked about tariffs and relations with China, Joe Biden stated, “We make up 25% of the world economy”(ABC News Democratic Debate). According to the website, Howmuch.net, The United States has the world’s largest economy with it contributing a total of 23.9% to the total economy of the world. This mean Biden was wrong and slightly over estimated the U.S.’s percentage in it’s make up of world economy (howmuch).

The topic of gun reform arose and Biden said,”Over 90% of American people think we have to get assault weapons off the streets”(ABC News Democratic Debate). Calculations done by politifact.com explained that the percentage of Americans who agree agree with this ranges from 50 to 70%. Ultimately Biden’s percentage was again incorrect(politifact).

When speaking on immigrants, Biden stated, “We didn’t lock people up in cages,we didn’t separate families”(ABC News Democratic Debate). According to kgun9.com, this isn’t entirely true as they claim that at times families were separated but it was never purposeful, it just happened. This means Biden was mostly incorrect when stating they did not split families(kgun9).

Things became heated when healthcare plans were brought into play. When talking about Bernie Sanders’ healthcare for all plan, Biden states that it “cost $30 trillion dollars,3.4 trillion a year turns out, twice what the entire federal budget is”(ABC News Democratic Debate). According to the website taxpolicycenter.org, Biden’s point is true but this is actually even more than twice the federal budget and closer to three times the federal budget (taxpolicycenter).

The 2019 democratic debate was full of questions and important presidential promises. The 2 and a half hour debate consisted of claims and fast rebuttals from every candidate.I believe all candidates were very professional and educated. The candidate that stuck out the most to me was former Vice President Joe Biden. Joe Biden stuck out due to his passion in what he is speaking about, his previous experience, and his ability to speak to the crowd.

The first reason why Biden stuck out to me was due to his passion. Biden always spoke with a tone of passion and knowledge on what he was talking about. Without passion, what he was saying would most likely have become boring. Everytime he found a way to expand his thought his volume became louder and you could just tell by his mannerisms that he cared about what was being said. Passion truly set Biden from the rest.

The second reason Biden stuck out to me is his previous experience. From common knowledge you know Joe Bidden served as the U.S. Vice President for 8 years. This allows Biden to go into this race very well known by most people. This also allows for Biden to be used to speaking to the American people, making these debates less nerve racking. Experience is encouraged in any job and this type of experience can only benefit Biden.

The last reason as to why Joe Biden stuck out to me is due to his ability to speak to the crowd. Like earlier mentioned, Biden is used to speaking to the American people. This worked tremendously to Biden’s advantage at the debate. He was able to speak to the crowd, always getting his point across, without error or mistake. The ability to speak to people may be one of the most important jobs as president and Biden did a great job at displaying his ability in front of his fellow candidates at the democratic debate.

In conclusion Joe Biden performed very well at the 2019 democractic debate. This was due to his ability to speak with passion, his experience, and his ability to speak to the people. His performance was truly unmatched by any of the other candidates at the debate. On national television your nerves would definitely be rocky but this did not affect Joe. Joe did a great job and performed phenomenally.
