Dogs have evolved over many years, earned the title of “mans best friend.” Dogs have many uses including them being police dogs and they can sniff out bombs and drugs (etc.) Also, dogs can just be there for a pet. Dogs have many stages of life, many benefits for humans, and have also evolved over thousands of years.
Dogs have evolved over thousands of years, since they first appeared with humans over 30,000 years ago and even right now dogs are constantly evolving. First off, all dogs have the same ancestor the grey wolf (PBS). All dogs from Newfoundland to the Pug all have the same ancestor the canis familiaris (Nat Geo). Some dogs have been bred to look a certain way. An example would be the Saint Bernese; over one-hundred years ago the Saint Bernese was a dog that was bred to be used to work.In the 1850s people started breeding them for dog shows that included changing the shape of their skull. Scientists are still debating where the dog originated from some say the Middle East and Europe and others say East Asia. Few people know this, but the dog is the largest carnivore to ever become domesticated. There is also some bad stuff about evolution. This would be that evolution has caused many health issues for dogs.
There are many benefits to having a dog. For example, dogs can make humans healthier, happier, and can keep humans safe (American Humane). First off, dogs can make owners happier. Dogs can make people happier due to the fact that dogs are calming, familiar compions (American Humane). Dogs are natural conversation starters and that promotes social interaction (American Humane) and the more social interaction people have, the more happy people can become. The next benefit of having a dog is, dogs can make owners healthier. Dog owners can simply become healthier by making accommodations for their dogs lifestyle (American Humane). Dog owners are also fifty-four percent more likely to get their recommended exercise then non-dog owning people (American Humane). Dogs can also keep people safe. Studies have shown that barking dogs help better deter burglaries and other violent attacks (American Humane). With a heightened sense of hearing and smell, dogs can detect things that people cannot and can alert people to possible danger (American Humane). Also a dog's natural instinct is often to protect their homes and their families.
Dogs like humans have many different stages of life. Dogs go through four different stages of life puppy, adolcelent, adult and senior (Pets). The puppy stage starts after about 63 days of gestation (Pets). During the puppy stage the dog learns about the proper way to interact with humans and with other pets sharing your home (Pets). The next stage of life is the adolescent. During this stage hormones start to kick in and if not spayed/neutered, the dog may begin to act like a moody teenager (Pets). Also dogs will lose puppy fur and grow to his/her full size. The next stage is adultery. During this stage occurs between ages 1 to 3. Also the dog will not be so demanding of attention and will not be bursting with the same energy he/her had as a puppy (Pets). The dog will still thrive from the mental and physical exercise of learning (Pets). The last and final stage of a dogs life is senior. During this stage the dogs muzzle will start to gray, and instead of a brisk game of fetch the dog will be more content with a stroll (Pets). Dogs will also sleep more and eat less than he as at other times of life (Pets).
Dogs can help deter a robbery and can make people healthier and happier. Dogs have also evolved from the grey wolf and are also the only large carnivore to become domesticated.
