Agriculture is an important facet in the foundation of countries all around the world. However, many nations struggle with not harming their environment with their agricultural production methods. Most people in the agricultural sector are uninformed about how damaging their agricultural production methods are to the environment. Not only is there a concern about the environment, but there is also a concern about poverty among people in the agricultural sector. Currently many agricultural production methods produce low or inconsistent yields, which leaves many agricultural workers in poverty. Agricultural workers have instead turned to subsistence farming, which leaves them unable to profit of their labor. The adaptation of alternative agricultural methods is crucial to the reduction of a loss of natural resources, environmental damage, hunger, and poverty. Pakistan understands the importance of developing alternative agricultural methods. In Pakistan, 42 percent of the workforce is based in agriculture (“Pakistan”), and agriculture plays an important role in Pakistan’s economy, having a significant role in supporting Pakistan’s GDP and exports. However Pakistan also struggles with sustainable agriculture, because most of Pakistan’s agricultural production is supported by the burning of fossil fuels, which has a negative on the environment. Because of this, Pakistan supports increasing the use of agricultural biotechnology, which would eliminate environmentally harmful agriculture while also producing large crop yields, thus increasing the income of farmers and stimulating the economy.
The Pakistan Agricultural Resource Council has pursued many projects and initiatives to increase the use sustainable agriculture methods. Pakistan has also started to use biotechnologically produced cotton seeds, which has been shown to increase crop yield, lower production methods, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions and the use of pesticides. Pakistan believes that an important step in adapting alternative agricultural methods is the implementation of educational programs, especially in areas with high frequency subsistence farming. Many farmers are unaware of the impact their production methods have, and do not realize that there are less environmentally damaging, and more successful methods available.
Pakistan supports the use of agricultural biotechnology to support the development of sustainable agriculture. Pakistan believes the development of biotechnology is crucial in the aiding the plights of agricultural workers in terms of crop instability, poor quality, and low yield. The implementation of biotechnology on seeds that farmers can help combat these issues, and can allow for farmers to achieve financial stability. Overall Pakistan strongly believes that they key to fighting the damage and ineffectiveness of traditional agricultural production methods, lies in creating alternative production methods. Pakistan aspires to establish solutions that allow people in the agricultural sector to access informations about alternative agricultural production methods, and solutions that give them the means to do so.
