Since the arrest of Jhadav, Pakistan was in strong position but Pakistan made a historic diplomatic victory over India in this Kalbushan case by allowing a meeting of a convicted terrorist with his family on humanitarian grounds whereas for the criminals involved in terrorism and espionage such meetings are not allowed.
Pakistan not only allowed his wife but also his mother and made all the arrangement for the meeting. Pakistan even allowed Indian media personnel to visit and ask the questions they wish to ask about Kalbushan but Indian government did not allow them to visit Pakistan. Pakistan also made necessary arrangement for Jhadav’s mother and wife interaction with media but this was also not allowed by India. The reason is obvious that Jhadav’s family will not be able to answer the basic questions like why he was having a passport with a fake Muslim name. So Indian media made sure that no interaction with media should occur during their stay in Pakistan.
Indian media personnel was not allowed with the family of Jhadav to visit Pakistan but Indian media was tasked by the Indian government to make this good gesture of Pakistan look as bad on their screens as it could be possible. As soon as the Indian media saw the images of Kulbhushan Jadhav meeting his mother and wife – separated by a glass wall they went rogue and started a rant against Pakistan and acting so naive as if they have seen such scene first time in the world and they are not able to understand why it’s done.
Times Now in a news report stated that Pakistan should have shown decency to let Kulbhushan’s mother hug him. Some other news channels said that Jhadav was not allowed to touch his mother’s feet according to the Indian traditions. Don’t know why Indian media forgets that Jhadav is the face of Indian terrorism caught by Pakistani agencies, he is not a son-in-law of Pakistan, and he will be treated as the terrorists are treated in Pakistan. It’s a standard procedure not even in Pakistan but all over the world including India that the people convicted in espionage and terrorism cases or in any case of capital punishment the convicted person are not allowed to have any physical interaction with the family during the meeting. Also Jhadav, his family and Indian authorities were informed well in advance about this.
Consular access was the other favorite topic of discussion on the Indian media while reporting this issue. Pakistan has made it very clear to the Indian authorities that Pakistan has issued visas to Jadhav’s wife and mother on “humanitarian grounds“, and has consistently denied consular access to him, as the Vienna Convention does not apply to those involved in espionage but the way Indian media was reporting this event, they were trying to give the impression that it’s the birthright of the Indian’s to meet their family even if they are convicted in the serious crime like terrorism and tried to give the impression that Pakistan is trying to make sure that nothing should go wrong in this sacred birthright-meeting ceremony of the lord Jhadav.
There are dozens of examples when India violated the basic human rights of its own citizens especially the freedom fighters of Kashmir. These examples are the proof of India’s Humanitarian achievements may be the media personals discussing the missing earlobe of Jhadav on Indian TV channels have never heard about the cases mentioned below.
Maqbool Bhat, a Kashmiri activist and co-founder of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, who was waiting optimistically for the review petition against his sentence on the grounds that the case had several legal flaws from its very beginning in 1966 was hanged on February 11, 1984, in Tihar Jail in New Delhi. Many Kashmiri lawyers claimed that the action of Indian government ignored Indian law and argue that Maqbool Butt’s hanging was an act of illegal execution by the Indian state. No member of his family was allowed to see him before execution, and his body was not handed over to his family after the execution. He was buried in undisclosed place in Tihar jail.
Afzal Guru another Kashmiri was hanged by India to satisfy the collective conscience of the society. Independent commentators have questioned his sentence stating that he did not receive adequate legal representation and that his execution was carried out in secrecy. Amnesty International also condemned his execution. Afzal Guru was not only barred from meeting his family before his execution but India crossed all the limits of Humanity by not handing over the dead body of Afzal Guru to his family. His body was buried within the precincts of Delhi’s Tihar Jail.Ashiq Hussain Faktoo / Muhammad Qasim, a Kashmiri activist, and freedom fighter was arrested in 1993. He is Kashmir’s longest-serving prisoner still fighting for his release. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of Human rights activist H.N.Wanchoo. Asiya Andrabi wife of Faktoo and head of Dukhtaran-e-Millat denies the murder charges against Faktoo. “His conviction is based on self-confession obtained during interrogation. There is no evidence to back this. The state did not produce any witness against him,” she adds. Faktoo was released by the TADA court in Jammu for want of evidence but re-arrested in 2000 by Indian Police. Faktoo spent 25 years in Prison and his wife and children have not seen him even once in the last 17 years.
Last but not the least Mushaal Mullick, a Pakistani wife of Kashmiri freedom activist Yaseen Malik has not been allowed to meet her husband who is in Police custody for last 3 years. These are few of the examples that Indian media and analysts should keep in their mind. They should first look inwards before criticizing others on Indian news channels. This also provides us the reason, why the India-Pakistan problems are everlasting. India is never interested in resolving the issues, no matter what positive steps you take to satisfy them. They will endlessly and shamelessly try to degrade every positive step that you take to facilitate them in reaching the conclusion in the disputed matters. That’s what India is all about, a shameless attitude and endless rant.
