Personal Experience in The Computer Science Education

Ever since childhood, I was intrigued by how computer programs worked. From how I could type this essay, to how I can control a character in a video game world and have it run so smoothly. This curiosity guided me from a young age to take subjects that delve into the work of computers and software.

I have taken ICT at my IGCSE’s and Computer Science at my A levels. I have also been practicing Python in my spare time to get a feel of programming and eventually truly understand it. While selected my AS’s, I decided to choose the subjects that both appealed to me as well as helping me by giving me a wide scope of career choices. I knew that whatever field I’d proceed in, would involve either Maths, Physics, Computer Science or all of them, as the potential careers for each of their fields were the ones I was most passionate about. Besides my interest in computers, I’ve always had a love for Physics.

I have taken 8 IGCSE’s including First Language English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and ICT. Scoring a total of 6A*’s, an A, and a B. While during my AS examinations I have taken Physics, Maths, and Computer Science, getting 3 A’s and 3 Achiever awards. Scoring the highest grade in both Maths and Computer Science over Egypt as well as getting the highest marks across 3 AS’s across Egypt. I believe a high academic level will further help prepare me for the difficulties that come from pursuing such a rich subject but with work and effort, all things become attainable.

During my AS examinations, I have been House captain, leading my house (A team comprised of multiple students from different year groups) during school events, I have been the Deputy Head of the fundraising committee, as well as helping run and organize dances and events. This year I help operate event and sale finances as deputy head of finance, I have also been charged with the role of deputy head of finance and deputy head of MUN (Model United Nations), organizing CES’s inclusion in another school MUNS and the teaching of our own students on the procedures of MUN. MUN has taught me many things, most importantly improving my public speaking skills and by extension my confidence in all situations. A skill that is vital to be able to contribute to large foreign communities and new teammates. Maui Thai is one of my passions, a sport that I have begun to take seriously and hope to continue later through life, during university and beyond. I was able to balance these important roles with my Maui Thai training and my academics while achieving 3 Achiever grades, allowing me to handle multiple jobs and tasks without stressing out and losing focus on any of them. Time management is an incredibly important ability, not only for the university but for life itself, an ability that I am confident I have mastered.

I am eager to study Computer Science so that I can work in this budding industry. More specifically my passion is to work in the game industry as a game programmer. To me, this is a job that I can give my complete attention to, a challenging career that requires creativity, hard work and it has many options within it.

The UK is a great choice, providing high-quality education, coupled with a pleasant living environment. I have practiced English my entire life (First Language English in IGCSE and before) and have visited the UK before. The schools I have gone to were run by an international staffing that mostly consisted of British teachers. So, acclimating to university life in the UK and general living afterward would be both simple and enjoyable as there won’t be a language barrier with the locals and struggles while learning will be minimal.

I believe I have both the skills and experience to be a useful member to both your esteemed University and to the UK as a whole.
