I'm not looking for a 9 to 5 job and I can't imagine a career where I'm sat constantly behind a desk. I'm interested in a career where I'm able to make a difference within the local and wider communities. Helping to make our villages and cities a safer place for all and being able to help others in the process.
These are a few of the reasons why do I want to become a Police Officer. The policing degree will equip me with all the necessary skills, ethics and key attitudes required to begin my career in the police force. I am particularly interested in gaining on-the-job experience as a special constable alongside my academic studies. I previously studied Sociology at GCSE and was particularly interested in examining social issues relating to crime. One of the topic areas I conducted research on was the many factors affecting criminal behavior, such as social class, age, and gender.
I recently completed a diploma in Business and attained a triple distinction grade. Throughout this course, I was able to demonstrate effective communication with my peers and tutors, through means such as presentations and group discussions. Throughout my Business diploma, I have been able to develop key transferable skills, including the ability to carry out in-depth independent research, the completion of in-depth accounts, and high attention to detail such as statistical data analysis. I previously completed a module on effective team building and this has enabled me to develop my skills in diplomacy and negotiation.
Additionally, this module allowed me to develop my ability to give help and support to other members of my team. These skills will be beneficial for my university studies as they will enable me to work effectively alongside my peers as I complete my learning. These are also necessary skills for a future career as a Police Officer when providing support and aid to members of the public and wider communities. Within my free time, I enjoy engaging in team sports and I currently am an active member of both a netball and badminton team.
I have previously played badminton for Derbyshire and enjoyed the camaraderie of being part of not only a successful but supportive team too. Engagement in team sports ensures that I keep myself physically fit and this is beneficial for my general health and mental well-being. Being physically fit will enable me to fulfill the demands of a future career within the police force. I am excited to begin my journey to fulfill my ambition to become a police constable and I am looking forward to being able to demonstrate this through my commitment and dedication during my university studies.
