Propaganda was easily understandable and accessible being just another advertising tool. If propaganda was not available, then many countries would have had difficulties gathering funds and supplies, getting more assistance and etc. during war. Without propaganda during the war, advertising to the public would have been very difficult in the 1930s and 40s. In this situation, propaganda was needed component during the war because it succeeded to catch the attention of the people. Propaganda helped to gain support overall, advertising nationalism and assisting women to stand up for their rights. Propaganda is a large part of the war and was a huge part of every countries success.

Propaganda helped to increase the support in war for every country. Since the war was costing Canada almost one million dollars per day to invest into the war, victory bonds that were being purchased with the advertised help of propaganda, they made it much easier for the government to help fund the war. Propaganda was very easily understandable and accessible. Therefore, it quickly convinced civilians to purchase victory bonds. In this issue, because purchasing victory bonds were promised to come back with interest, citizens of the country were purchasing so many bonds that would be supporting men at war and also have supplies and other guns to fight with, for their country. Therefore, because of propaganda, victory bonds being easily advertised and sold was successful and possible. Another way propaganda helped to increase the support was that it helped to convince men wanting to help their country and join the army or navy. Due to this, Canada and other countries were easily able to gather over one million soldiers to fight in war. There were more men fighting for their country and the outcomes were a larger army and higher chances of victory. This was possible was by using meaning slogans such as: “I want YOU to JOIN the U.S. Army”. This influenced and convinced men to enlist in the army. The last way propaganda helped was by gaining more support to convince people to save food. There were slogans like “Food is a weapon, don’t waste It. You will starve to death”. This was useful because more resources and food were accessible to soldiers fighting on the battlefield. Even though the food served was not the best, due to propaganda there was a sufficient amount of it saved and supplied in war. Therefore, since food was saved, soldiers and nurses were able to eat more and be able to have sufficient energy to serve their countries for as long as possible. In conclusion, propaganda was definitely helpful in increasing support.

Propaganda helped to easily promote nationalism. This helped in bringing out the inner Canadian in everyone, making citizens want to support their country. Due to this, support in war increased and with the help of slogans such as “Support YOUR Nation to Victory” citizens wanted to support their countries to success and victory. In addition, the promotion of Nationalism made citizens more proud and confident towards their countries. Many citizens, because of this, were always extremely proud of their country wanting to support their country even more. To sum up, propaganda easily promoted pride and confidence in citizens, making each nation using propaganda, stronger as a country. This is so because propaganda made civilians more caring towards their country, making citizens want to make their country “the best”. In addition Nationalism being promoted with propaganda also promoted safety. An example of a slogan would be “Forget Germany, make Canada the best, because Canada IS THE BEST”. In conclusion Propaganda was able to help create more proud, patriotic and confident citizens with safer nations.

The final way propaganda was able to help in war was by influencing women to be more responsible and become more involved. Using propaganda the government was able to convince women to help out by finding jobs. This helped women become more involved and helped increase the number of citizens working. To sum up, since more women were working, by mid war over 25% of war “employees” were women serving as nurses or staying back to fill in for the men, helping to strengthen their country economically. On the other hand, women were able to become more involved because as they found jobs and became more responsible, they were able to work more and earn more money. Eventually, becoming a large part of society and not being looked down upon. An example of a popular female motivating propaganda slogan is “We can do it” meant to help women become more responsible, involved and empowered. Lastly, women were now accepting leadership roles, fighting for their rights. For example, in 1917 Emily Murphy was able to get women in Canada the right to vote nationally. Due to use of propaganda, many women were now positively impacted which eventually helped them fight for their rights and position in society. In conclusion, women were now leaders, more responsible and involved and were definitely positively impacted by propaganda.
