The FIFA world cup had come to life once again after 4 years. The tournament this year had been held in one of the largest and most powerful of nations- Russia. 32 teams from all over the world participated in world cup. Looking at this for motivation our school too had decided to host our own tournament mimicking the features of the actual world cup. As per tradition the event took place this year too. When this announcement was made the students couldn’t contain their excitement.
For the next two weeks during which the planning was done and the matches played, you couldn’t walk from one class to another without hearing about the tournament. The school witnessed the 6 teams each from both boys and girls battling on the race for the golden cup. The finals for the boys had taken place on the 10th of july between the Brazil and the Portugal teams. The resulting winner of this tournament for the boys was the brazil team whose captain Ahmed Shehzad beheld the glory of the trophy. Coincidently the France teams from both actual and the mock tournaments managed to bag a position in the finals. The girl’s finals unfortunately had to be postponed due to surprise rain showers. It eventually took place on the 12th of july between the portugal and the france teams. Unlike the official world cup , france lost the match, handing over the winning title to the Portugal team.
Their captain Aaiman Akhtar could be seen doing a happy dance after their big win. A few of the planners were interviewed on what inspired them to organize this splendid event. “Seeing kids dribble past me while playing football just blew my mind. I wanted ourselves to be reminded of what we were capable of doing. Also I didn’t want to ignore the golden tradition.” Quoted by Ammar, organizer of the tournament. “It develops teamwork and organizational skills among the pupils.”said Taliya vocalizing her thoughts when asked the question. “When I saw the ever growing passion for football in school, I found the need to give the boys and girls alike, a stage to showcase their hidden football talents.” says Aamina, also one of the organizers of the event. The event might be over but it still has a special place in our hearts.
