Knowledge and Understanding

In 7th grade of the English subject, the teacher used group work strategy, where students have to write a narrative story. The desks were five for each group and there was an enough space to walk through the class is wide. Also, the sunlight was all through the class which was good. Each group had contained different levels of students, they are all worked together to complete the task of writing on time. She explained few things in fifteen minutes then Students started to write for twenty minutes. After finishing, each group chose one girl to stand and read their story for all. When the five groups finished, the teacher gave a feedback for each group from what she observed. For the first group, she said i liked your motivation towards the task to complete it before the others. The second group she said I liked your imagination of writing your story. For the third and fourth, she said I liked how you worked together where the entire group shared their ideas. And for the last group, she said to them don’t underestimate yourself at all. She only addressed the good point of each group to motivate them.

Preparation is vital for anything we want to do in our life. Going back to what we studied in QRTA about planning, we can save a lot of time and effort if the teacher planed well for his/her class to face any sudden or unexpected situations. I also had the chance to know the four kinds of planning we need for schools and what we can include inside them, so the four kinds are the annual plan, medium-term plan, weekly/monthly plan and daily plan. As a student in the diploma, I had the to plan a micro teaching lesson for five minutes, and I presented it in front of my colleges and my academic adviser where at the end they gave me my strengths points and areas to develop. " The ability to organize instructional time materials and activities so that classes run smoothly are skills that will enable you to keep your students engaged in learning, thereby reducing the need for discipline With planning comes the learning environment, as teachers we must provide comfortable, safe and courage surrounding area weather in classrooms, laps or any other place for students to engage in the learning process.

Evaluation of Practice

I think that using this strategy has many benefits in cooperation with having well-designed classrooms that they are critical for effective learning. I'm going to address tow advantages from my point of view;

  1. Its addressing students differentiation
  2. All students have the chance to participate, to practice speaking and to share thoughts.

"Individual committed to a group effort -that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work" – Vince Lombarti. These small changes make a great impact of students academically achievement. What went well that students in this learning environment had the chance to learn from others in a fun way. And the time for the teacher speaking reduced by the group work. In the term of teaching, teachers and students learn from each other, both become recipient and participant. And when teaching and learning become shared experiences, it becomes evident that it is a two-way process.

One of the groups didn’t complete the task of writing because they started lately from other groups. And in this group, one of the students worked alone and wrote her own story. Also, the teacher didn’t say anything about some of the weak point for each group. I think that the teacher didn’t clear out the instructions for the groups, because that group started late and didn’t finish the task, this is part of planning. "A good teacher, like a good entertainer first must hold his audience's attention, then he can teach his lesson" John Henrik Clarke.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

If I were her I wouldn’t let any of the group start until I make sure that all of them understand the instructions of what to do. Also, I'll assure and confirm that all the members of the group should work together to get the mark. Also, I believe in order to have an improvement she should have told the groups of their areas that needed a development to overcome these later on. And for the girl who wrote a story alone, if I were the teacher condition, I would talk to her far away from the students to know what the problem is and solve it.

I'll start to read articles about problems within students groups or in class in general and how to overcome it. I'll ask my mentor to give me from her working experience a feedback for how to plan a good lesson, also asked her to teach me how to build strong activities that arise students interests and thoughts. Next Steps What targets/actions that arise from these reflections? In the next two weeks, I will start to work on my skill in preparing and planning any type of the planes that I've mentioned before to meet the teacher standers of QRTA.
