The concert was at the UIC theatre which was not far for me from the place I live. The concert was held on Saturday, so I was able to attend the concert as I had no classes the other day and also had a free time. I had never thought that I would be going to the UIC Theatre for the concert but taking this course changed everything. And the most interesting of going to a concert that to with no fee because for students it was free entry by just showing the student identity card. So I just for a second that I would have never been to this place and would have never thought of it but I thought it was the right decision for me by taking Music 100. When I entered there were a lot of people and mostly they were senior citizen people and I even saw my professor and few classmates. The conductor of the orchestra was Louis Bergonzi who is a professor at UIC and guides the UIC Orchestra.
For the first time, I enjoyed the concert as it was organized in such a lovely way. When I got inside I could see people who sitting taking photos and all the musicians were ready sitting, arranged in a beautiful manner and were ready to perform. The show started at 7:33 with a melody to give a startup. When the conductor showed up there was a big round of applause and everyone greeted him. When I had been to the previous concert I had not seen the conductor so happy wherein UIC he was always smiling and it seemed that he was a man with no worries and always take things in a positive way. Everyone had a nice dress code and were well dressed and were checking their instruments to perform well. The first program was ‘Little Suite (Mala Suite)’ from 1951 which was from the village of Machow. This suite movements Fujuarka (Fife), Hurra (Polka), Poinsenka (Song), and Taniec (Dance) which was recorded for a radio broadcast by the Orchestra of the Polish Radio. They started with a low key which was very pleasant and just makes the person listen to them. It also felt like when any famous person is welcomed or has cherished the whole country. The conductor was so experienced that he was able to conduct everyone and was in a proper sequence. Everyone was following the conductor as he used his techniques by waving his hand and indicate which instrument should be played and which should stop. The instruments used were Violin, Cello, Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Viola, French Horn, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Percussion, and Trumpet.
The flute was played by Megan which was just amazing she had done her practice very nicely that just made the audience shocked. After that, there was a fixed beat of drums and the texture was homophonic. I don’t think if there were any mistakes because the music was played in clear and high frequency. The violin, string bass were being played at the same time and I even think the viola was being played in which the pitch was sharp. Then there was a sudden stop and there was a slight transition. There was a sweet melody played which created a time period where everyone looked happy. Everyone gave a round of applause and then ‘Scheherazade’ was being played. It started with clarinet and French horn, and after that one by one, all the instruments were played.
One thing was observed that there was different pitch every time. It was a bit confusing to guess which instrument is being played when. Moreover, the trumpet gets so louder at a specific time and then there is a sudden change. Then the next tune is started by minor key. The situation created there by the violin was again different and felt like someone is depressed. Then suddenly the pitch is so loud and then drum beats playing along with it and change the mood of a depressed person into something else.
I could feel the emotions played by the musicians and how much effort they had put in it. The main thing was that in the end the conductor introduced everyone and said that all the musicians had a different major like some were doing civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and different fields. I was really shocked after that because it is a very big thing to play in the concert that too so good. By taking this course I have learned to understand what exactly music means and how all the instruments are played. I was never so excited to go the music concert but now I just can't wait for the next concert to attend. I would like to recommend my classmates also about taking this course and understand the concept of music.
