What obligation do we hold for future generations? When we asked how it could possibly be that we owe moral duties to those in the future, the answer is simple. Future generations are people. People, have human worth and rights as well as the actions of ours that could undermine their very right to exist. How will our society be remembered in 100 years? Within this essay I want to reflect on this topic as I believe that in the year 2123, our society will be remembered for a multitude of achievements and failures. As we reflect on the present state of our society and consider its future, it is important to contemplate the legacy that we will leave for future generations.

The first questionis  whether we owe any moral responsibility to future generations? Consequently, what sacrifices will we have to make? Some dare suggest that an action's consequence lacks any moral significance, but can we brush aside the fact that we will not only affect future generations' well being but their very identity. The next question is still how our society will be remembered in 100 years? I think that one of the most significant achievements of our society in the past century has been the advancement of technology. Our society has witnessed remarkable innovations in fields such as medicine, transportation, communication, and entertainment. The development of the internet, smartphones, and social media has fundamentally transformed the way we interact with each other and the world around us. Our society has also made significant strides in space exploration, with the successful landing of rovers on Mars and the continued exploration of our solar system.

However, our society will also be remembered for its failures and challenges. In the past century, we have witnessed significant social, economic, and environmental challenges. The world has seen the rise of authoritarian regimes, the perpetuation of systemic racism, and a widening wealth gap between the rich and poor. Our society has also faced significant environmental challenges, including climate change, deforestation, and the loss of biodiversity.

What moral obligation could we possibly hold to future society? It's justified that future generations will be affected by what we do today. Three main factors we control today are shown to mainly affect them. The environment, population and culture. We as people are currently aware of our impacts upon the environment and its consequence on the quality of life. In the coming years, our society will be faced with a number of critical decisions that will impact the future of our planet and its inhabitants. We will need to find ways to address the challenges of climate change, reduce social and economic inequalities, and ensure that the benefits of technological advancements are shared equitably.

We're caused to think. Are we morally required to leave them seas to fish in, mountains to climb, forests to explore and an atmosphere to breathe in? In order to ensure these resources, we may very well have to change our lifestyles drastically to accompany for future needs. Will we be prepared to? The quality of life in the future will be affected by our choice, or lack of choice in population policies. Although similar to the concepts of environmental policies, they are different. We can easily destroy the environment for resources without any sign of population growth. Or we could simply pursue unrealistic population policies which confine our population to the land masses set by ecology. Either way, the fact that future generations will experience hardship due to our lack of interest in moral duty in population policies justifies that we must act now. Finally, there are the choice of cultural policies we must protect as they too, affect future generations. Our capabilities to ensure a functioning economy participates towards the standard of living for us and future generations as well as improvements of technologies. But there are many other cultures policies that we must take into account that include spiritual assets and moral values such as compassion which are considered more crucial. Life without morals and legal confinements doesn't appear to seem to be considered as 'true human life'. This leads to the moral duty we hold, which is to lead rich cultural goods such as these. War, is a factor that destroys all three of these aspects. Therefore it's our obligation to ensure that we promote everlasting peace. So if we do have any moral responsibility to those in future generations, it is vital that we are to protect these three spheres.

Overall, I belive that in 100 years, our society will be remembered as a turning point in human history. It will be seen as a time of both great progress and significant challenges. The legacy that we leave will depend on the actions that we take today, and the choices that we make as a society. It is up to us to create a future that is characterized by progress, justice, and sustainability.
