Haiti is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles on the Caribbean Sea, to the east of Cuba and Jamaica and south of the Bahamas. Haiti is 27,750 square kilometers and is the third largest country in the Caribbean. The population in Haiti is 11.4 million people mostly by black people making the most inhabitant country in the Caribbean. The capital Port-au-Prince, the official language is French. Haiti is a very poor country because of the political fights and it suffered from many natural disasters such as earthquakes.
Haiti severely deforested, with forests being cut to make charcoal for fuel. Haiti shears with the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is full of forest and the Haiti side is bare. In Haiti 15000 acres or 6000 hectares of tropical are lost every year. It’s not just loss of soil, but the resulting flooding when all the storm's water comes rushing off the bare hillsides. Soils goes to the Caribbean Sea. There are also populated areas where these waterways flow through cities into the sea. Without soil you can’t grow food. They recycle the tree into charcoal furniture buildings etc.
Haiti is suffering a lack of clean water and they don't have a system that provides clean water for the people. Most of the water sources are
contaminated with human waste. The problem is the absence of a sewage sanitation system.
Haiti suffers several times from earthquakes that destroy everything in the island such as the water supply system.
The biggest earthquakes in 2010 caused damage to wells and water systems, which are a major source of freshwater for the people of Haiti and also caused a spread of cholera. Many people died.
Haiti is the most underserved country in the region in terms of water and sanitation infrastructure. The primary means of cholera transmission is through consumption of water contaminated with human waste. Many organisations tried to help Haiti and collected Aid to solve the problem. Government invested a lot of money to improve the water system after the earthquake so it is developing but still not good enough.
When you first hear the country name Haiti people first think about poverty. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. It is not just earthquakes that affect them, it is hurricanes as well. They built up the houses and the next hurricane season destroys them. The GDP is very low cause they don't have jobs and work to do. They depend on tourism but the infrastructure is not good enough. Haitians suffer from lack of or unreliability of electricity. The other problem that leads to poverty is the political issue. A dictatorship that does not want good education and it does not want to improve people's life. The corruption is very bad in the country. The unemployment is extremely high. Unfortunately Haiti has a lot of mountains and it does not have enough land that they can use for agriculture. The education and healthcare system is also very bad and leads to poverty.
I think Haiti is in a very bad situation because of the storms etc. I think the government should help more in the education system and we also could help them to build stronger houses that storms can’t demolish. We can send them money even 1euro is enough to help them.
