Colombia is one of the largest Country in South America at 440,831 square miles. Colombia is the 17th dangerous country in the world, yet the media portrays it as a amazing country filled with beautiful beaches, national parks, museums and the best sights to see behind all those beautiful things there are many things you don't know like they have one of the biggest drug trafficking. It’s mostly a Spanish speaking and Catholic country. Bogota is the Capital. Colombians have a really diverse culture. Fifty eight percent of the people in Colombia are mixed with Spanish and Native descent or mestizo. Thirty four percent is European descent they might be mixed with black and white descent also. The other eight percent are mixed races.
Colombia also has the largest Catholic population in the world. It’s known for its coffees softness. It’s also known for the best emeralds in the world, they make 60% of emeralds world wide. They are also known for beautiful women and soccer. Colombia’s culture is one of a kind. Colombia has a lot of beautiful places to visit like beautiful beaches, mountains, and rainforests, but it is known for its violent protests and the violent influence of powerful drug cartels. Colombia’s soccer team is well know and concerned a good team. Things aren't all pretty like people say they are, behind all the good and beautiful things about the country there are ugly things. Everything comes with a price like Colombia its a beautiful place but its surrounded by bad things such as drugs and bad people.
Colombia’s official name is Republic of Colombia. It was colonized by many tribes and farmers. There was two main civilizations that formed Colombia and they were the Tairona and the Muisca people. In 1813, Colombia declared independence from Spain and 1819 they made the Republic of Greater Colombia. Colombia’s history has been one of the most diverse country in the world. Simon Bolivar was the first Colombian president. He became president in 1819. In 1830, Ecuador and Venezuela became independent from Gran Colombia. In 1930, Panama left from Colombia with US backing and lets the United States control over the land now known as the Panama Canal zone. The drug world started in the 1970s and it started with cocaine smuggling to the United States and Europe. Pablo Escobar started his cocaine operation in 1975.
Ever since the 1970s Colombia has been one of the most violent drug trafficking in the world. Pablo Escobar was the biggest drug lord and narco terrorist in the year of 1980’s early 90’s. Colombian cocaine traffickers hired engineering experts from Russia and the United States to help them design a submarine which was used to ship large amounts of cocaine to the U.S. Marijuana traffickers also started to smuggle small amounts of cocaine to the U.S hidden in suitcase. It was being sold for $50,000 per kilo in the streets of the U.S. The Medellin Cartel was known as Pablos operation. Pablo was really violent. After Pablo was killed the Cali Cartel took over but it was taken down in the mid 1995. A little more about Pablo Escobar. He was born on December 1, 1949 and died on December 2, 1993. He controlled over 80% of the cocaine that was being shipped to the U.S. He wasn't a bad personal either he did a lot to help like helping charity projects and soccer clubs. According to Pablo's son he said his father committed suicide. Pablo Net worth was 30 billion. The Cartel made $420 million a week just by smuggling drugs. Pablo tried to run for president in Colombia but when he had no shot so he killed many people because of that reason. He build his own prison and was guarded by his employees. In 1992, he escaped when they tried to move him to another prison.
