The Count of Monte Cristo is novel about a sailor who took over a ship after the original captain died. The new captain became the sailor Edmond. The owner of the ship offered him a job. Edmond was ecstatic with the new position and Edmond upcoming wedding with Mercedes. Unfortunately, Edmond’s newly found success called for new enemies out of jealousy and greed. Fernand Mondego jealousy over Mercedes, Danglars wanting to take Dante’s new position in the Pharaon, Carderousse is a neighbor of Dante angry for his success and finally a prosecutor named Villefort fearing a letter Edmond is carrying meant for Villefort father, fear of ruining Villefort reputation. All four of Edmond enemies conspired to prison Dante in solitary confinement secretly by claiming Dante is a traitor. Edmond met a prisoner whom told of a treasure in the island of Monte Cristo. The Count of Monte Cristo now planned revenge to all who wronged him, Edmond took revenge on all his enemies. Dante poisoned an enemy, killed an enemy and also found information to incriminate Fernand of betrayal of royalty. Finally, Edmond took revenge on his enemies and married a new love.
The Count of Monte Cristo has many themes and morals one of its most relevant themes is the importance of personal growth. The read sees Edmond Dante as a young boy, naïve and innocent hoping to better himself by working following the events the led to his imprisonment was when Dante realized the true horrible forms of humanity and people one encounter as an adult. Dante became vengeful and nobleman looking for revenge against those who wronged him. Later realizing that its important to forgive. This led to Dante becoming compassionate and wise. The types of revenge can be seen by cruel by some and it can is important remember the limits once should apply on justice by our own hands. Dantes enemies betray him over personal dissatisfaction. Edmond enemies have their own blessings in their lives but their self hatred and unhappiness brings them to envy others. It is a necessity in life to look to your neighbor to see what they don’t have and one give not looking for how much more you have. Happiness is in our mind, one can be happy with less than another person. Happiness is about perspective. While away Dante becomes alienated not only from society but from human emotion. Dante is unable to feel human rightly so after being wrong many times out of pure human hatred. This leads him to take revenge a mistake made by a young Dante.
In conclusion, Edmond took revenge on those who wrong him but finished a compassionate man that learned from the mistakes in life. Anger, isolation and growing hate over holding a grudge can lead to actions that are not necessary.
