Romeo and Juliet were written in the late 1500's it does not take place during that time period so i think it’s before that. The costumes were impressive i believe and they were magnificent in style and true to the history of the time period. But the fashion separated people from their classes.
The movie takes place in Verona. Romeo and Juliet have such different worlds as we always meet Romeo in the streets, never in his own house and Juliet was almost never allowed outside the walls of her father's house.
The son of old Montague Romeo is handsome, witty, and, unlike the rest of his clansmen, sensitive. Romeo is a charming, brave, and loyal to his friends and family but also passionate to a fault and prone to recklessness and immaturity. He was depressed because he loves Rosaline, but she does not love him back. But when he meets Juliet at the costume party. They instantly fall in love and decided to get married in secret the next day.
One of the conflicts was that Juliet fakes her death when Juliet drinks the sleeping potion the night before her marriage to Paris. In the morning, she does not wake, and she is pronounced dead. They take her to the Capulet tomb where she will wait for Romeo. Friar Laurence writes a letter to Romeo informing him of their plan, but the letter doesn't get delivered to Romeo and he is told that Juliet is dead. If Romeo knew the plan, they could solve the problem. Another one is when Romeo goes to celebrate with his friends, Mercutio and Benvolio, but gets into a fight with Juliet's cousin, Tybalt. Tybalt kills Mercutio and Romeo avenges his death by killing Tybalt.
I think there is so many messages behind the story. One of the messages could be don’t make rash and quick decisions because they usually lead to trouble and you may end up regretting a lot. Another message I could see is that suicide should not be an option for dealing with problems of young lovers, In the story we see that they just knew each other for a couple of days and love really takes time to build.
If they remake the movie it will not be the same because of modern technology, government, and culture. First thing first If there were mobile phones, wouldn't be the same. The whole situation would be flipped. Honestly, if they just had internet, none of this would have happened and I don' t think that the story would turn out the same because they could easily run away together and live somewhere else.
The second thing is the deaths of Tybalt and Mercutio probably wouldn't have happened simply because, in today's world, the two would have been arrested during the first fight on the street which did result in deaths.
Now days If you were forced to marry, people would be in trouble because in today's world, you have rights. The ending will not be the same as well because they would've sent Juliet to a hospital when they thought she dead. So, I don't think the outcome would have been the same.
I really like the movie it was so good in my opinion especially for young people because they teach us many valuable life lessons. One thing that people can learn from the movie is that we should never take rash decisions like Romeo. Romeo could accept the “fake” death of Juliet. They had a chance on being together in the end.
