Working in a group increases the productivity and improves once performance. This semester, I and other 4 of my classmates were assigned to make a group assignment with a topic of “Agencies that deals with emotional/physical disabilities”.  The purpose of this essay is to discuss my experience working in a group, and the lessons I have learnt. Our initial meeting was to introduced ourselves since it was the first day of our class. We talked about our backgrounds, our nursing experiences and took contact numbers and use WhatsApp to communicate about our assignment. We discussed about the tasks that each individual will do. I thought of doing a draw lots so that it will be fair for everyone; instead of choosing our own topics. We also talked about having deadlines per task so that we will be to manage our time and be able to submit the assignment on time. After the discussion, I told my groupmates to look and search for agencies that deal with our topic and we will brainstorm. We didn’t decide to have a leader but most of the decision and initiative was done by me.

On our next meeting, we all decided to choose Hellenic Hope Center which is located in Danforth and Warden. At this moment, we shared our ideas on why did we choose Hellenic Hope Center. I started to input something on the PowerPoint as some information can be found in their website. I emailed the center to asked for an appointment for an interview of any of their staff but I didn’t get any response.

My other groupmate is the one responsible for calling and following up with the center. We waited at least a week to get an appointment and we were given September 18, 2018 at 9am. Our day of interview came in and it was only the 3 of us was able to make it. We were in the center for about 30 minutes. We were toured around by the manager of the facility. I did prepare some questions the night before so that it will be fast interview and all information we needed won’t be missed. Working in a group can be a challenge as not all of us has the same schedule. Some of my groupmates lives far including myself and staying in school after class is not easy as we have to travel to get home and prepare for the next day.

What I had contributed in our group is by being responsive, punctual and being reliable. I did most of the PowerPoint like editing; but all of us contributed to have a final report. What I have learned about working in a group is that it can be a stress at some point but then you can learn something from other as well.

Expert Review
This essay reflects the writer’s experience of working in a group for a class project. The organization of the essay is somewhat confusing, as it jumps back and forth between events and lacks a clear structure. Additionally, the writer uses a lot of colloquial language and the sentence structure could be improved. There are also several grammatical errors. The essay lacks a clear focus and conclusion. The writer could have used more formal language and synonyms to make the essay more coherent and academic.

What can be improved
The essay lacks a clear structure, which makes it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. For instance, the writer jumps from discussing the group members’ first meeting to the process of choosing a topic, then back to the first meeting. It would be helpful if the writer had provided a clearer introduction and conclusion to the essay to guide the reader. In terms of sentence structure, the writer uses short, simple sentences that could be improved with more varied sentence structure. For instance, the sentence "What I had contributed in our group is by being responsive, punctual and being reliable" could be rewritten as "In our group, I contributed by being responsive, punctual, and reliable." Furthermore, the essay contains several grammatical errors, such as "improves once performance" instead of "improves one's performance" and "be to manage" instead of "able to manage." The writer could improve the essay by revising it for grammar and punctuation errors. The essay also lacks a clear focus. It starts by discussing the writer's experience working in a group and ends with what the writer learned from the experience. However, the essay does not provide a clear thesis or argument, which could help to give it a sharper focus. Finally, the writer uses a lot of colloquial language and could benefit from using more formal language and synonyms. For instance, the phrase "staying in school after class is not easy" could be rewritten as "remaining on campus after classes have ended can be challenging." Using more academic language would give the essay a more professional tone and make it more coherent.
