In recent years, work-life balance (WLB) has emerged as a definitive concern amongst employers, trade unions, academics and policy makers. In this competitive world the working women have grabbed the attention on them because working women in number has been increasing towards different category of professional work opportunities. In each profession, there will be different expectation and they have to manage them without compromising their personal life expectations.
During the last 50 years, there is a change in perception towards women. The participation of women in the mainstream workforce is continuously increasing. They are largely employed in both private and public sector other. Even women who work outside home and earn a good income are expected to spend time with children and complete the household works (G. Shiva, 2013).
Women should work to get financial independence and their income helps the family too. Nowadays, expenses are increasing day by day and this extra income definitely helps the family to overcome the expenses. The families who are having two salaries always can afford better education for their children, can have better lifestyle, and can plan better savings. Everybody is aware that currently many women got good education and gained skills which are required for the industry. So women should go the work and utilize their skill which helps to the Society. Married women have more responsibility about their children. Children are connected more to mother, so mother should take care of children. Mother should teach children about society, need of education. If married women become busy with the work, children future will become uncertain. So married women should work as well as concentrate on children career. They should balance their work and personal life.
Work life balance of mother employees has become an important subject since the time has changed from men earning the family living in today’s world where both men and women equally share the responsibility of earning for the betterment of their family life.
Hence it is for the betterment of their family life. Hence it is very necessary to know how the mothers balance very professional and domestic life. In the initial stages, women had to struggle a lot to establish their identity in this competitive world, both in the society as well as in the professional life.
After the Industrial Revolution in the second half of the 18th century, there was a tremendous change in the pattern and concept of professionalism. This has given a new dimension to work-life balance. But there is no one perfect shape to work-life balance. It varies from individual to individual because priorities differ according to individual life styles. It not only changes in priorities but also changes in status, like when one is unmarried, after marriage, after childbirth, when a new career begins and this keeps on changing till one's retirement.
With this increasing industrialization and education, employment opportunities for women have also increased. And with increasing economic conditions, it has become a necessity that both husband and wife need to work to have a normal life. In this fast growing and competitive world, as every possible opportunity for employment is increased, the organizations need to create a congenial atmosphere where employees can balance their professional and personal life. Only when an employer has a positive WLB, she can be productive and give her best to her organization. Hence industries are working out schemes which can attract as well as retain their employees.
