They play a critical role in balancing and reconciling competing values and interests. Organizations need practical tools coupled with information to understand the values and the best management techniques. To approach ethical and social responsibility initiatives correctly, companies can perceive business ethics as a straightforward way of resolving conflicts in situations wherein one option seems like the most feasible option. Most cases that apply ethical codes typically entail ethical violations, including stealing, abuse of office, and breaking contracts, among other related events. Often, most employees realize that they have a profound moral conflict only in the presence of value conflicts observed commonly among differing interests. It is common for firms to run CSR programs that ensure fair treatment for employees in a sweatshop, such as preventing the exploitation of small-scale farmers by giving correct compensation for their work and yield. Although the ethical programs may be hard to enforce, they are essential in ensuring that the company engages in fair practices and avoids legal and regulatory issues. For example, the cosmetics company Lush based in the UK is renowned for its global activism against animal testing. Aside from the yearly Lush prize that drives innovation to help stop the current anti-testing techniques, the entity is dedicated to engaging only in fair and direct trades. For instance, it consistently purchases its ingredients directly from producers. The approach allows it to ensure optimized working conditions alongside getting reasonable product prices. Besides, it ensures that the company sources the safest and most suitable raw materials for manufacturing, which ultimately guarantees the best quality items for the customers. Most crucially, it uses ethical practices to fight against child labor. One of its codes of conduct mandates that once a manufacturer learns about possible child labor, they should support the victim by providing education and transition programs.
