Companies can manage ethics in the workplace by forming an ethics management program. It conveys the company's values through codes and policies that influence employees' behavior and decision-making. It includes extensive evaluations and training to align with the overall organizational goals and objectives. Most companies offer to adhere to the ethical codes of conduct since they are helpful guidelines during ethical dilemmas. Although most contemporary companies have an ethics program, some employees may not know its role and importance. Most ethics programs comprise the policies, values, and activities that directly impact proprietary organizational behavior. They play a critical role in balancing and reconciling competing values and interests. Organizations need practical tools coupled with information to understand the values and the best management techniques. To approach ethical and social responsibility initiatives correctly, companies can perceive business ethics as a straightforward way of resolving conflicts in situations wherein one option seems like the most feasible option. Most cases that apply ethical codes typically entail ethical violations, including stealing, abuse of office, and breaking contracts, among other related events. Often, most employees realize that they have a profound moral conflict only in the presence of value conflicts observed commonly among differing interests. The cases arise in the presence of actual alternatives that can be justified equally or when the ethical violations will have profound consequences on the stakeholders. Occasionally, employees encounter ethical dilemmas when forced to choose between various alternatives. Companies capable of social and ethical responsibilities would help avoid such issues and demonstrate an interest in external parties such as the community.

Social responsibility concerns the company's readiness to take charge of noble duties at the community level by giving back. Usually, it entails fundraisers for worthy causes that encourage communities, companies, and stakeholders to thrive together. The approach to social responsibility creates a unique opportunity for UK companies to strengthen relationships with stakeholders at various levels. Firms can use it to form strategies and build partnerships. They can place more value on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives as a proven way of strengthening the brand's name while at the same time making meaningful contributions to society. Considering CSR is an effective strategy because it supports better company performance and creates more positive and favorable social impacts.

Although many companies often view business ethics and social responsibility as the same concept, the latter only covers one part of the entire realm of business ethics. Businesses started realizing their ability to engage in social responsibility for better outcomes during the 1960s movements that increased public consciousness. Notably, they demonstrated how social responsibility could assist in cultivating and maintaining ethical practices in organizations.

Still, social responsibility is linked to ethics because it makes companies accountable for meeting their civic duties. The theory encourages ethical considerations by insisting that the activities and behaviors of an individual benefit society at large. Hence, the admixture of social alongside ethical responsibilities equalizes social welfare and commercial advancement without leaving the environment unattended. The equilibrium guarantees easier accomplishment of pertinent matters regarding social responsibility.

Furthermore, companies have different interpretations of what it means to be ethical and socially responsible. The theory of social responsibility clarifies the different interpretations by building on a system of ethics that mandates the validation of actions and decisions. Decisions and measures that damage the environment or society are widely regarded socially alongside ethically unpalatable. The moral value naturally existent in communities creates a robust borderline of right versus wrong. Therefore, most people believe that social fairness describes the proper steps. As such, all companies are responsible for acting in society's best interests rather than personal or organizational interests. In entities that can apply ethical and social considerations, the broad range of ethical and social responsibilities apply to individuals and corporate capacities. Hence, companies should find ways to incorporate the two constructs into everyday decisions and actions. It applies most to decisions that affect the organization and the entire society. Within the broader corporate capacity, having a robust ethical and social responsibility code defines the appropriate behavior of the group during internal and external interactions.

As a result, companies develop a well-structured ethical and social responsibility system that is well suited for the specific environment. Sustaining social responsibility in firms entails viewing the managers alongside the juniors as equals when it comes to the finances of the entity. It plays an essential role of ensuring that the company protects the environment and society. The codes safeguard the firm from overlooking the ethical ramifications alongside steps for individual dividends since the returns are often immaterial. The law is especially important for the companies that try to ignore the environmental regulations that force complicated government interference. Although most start-ups and small organizations lack the financial resources needed to propose social responsibility, small efforts sometimes have profound impacts, especially within the organization and the local communities. Even 5% percent of investments in social responsibility efforts add up gradually to make a notable difference. For instance, companies that offer donations at the local level experience extensive boosts in brand awareness.

Besides, in determining and launching the social responsibility initiatives, companies involve employees in the decision-making process. Often, managers create an internal team that spearheads the various efforts and causes related to the organizational objectives and the appropriate social considerations. Social issues often relate to matters that the employees feel strongly about. Companies realize that contributing to problems that the employees are passionate about boosts engagement and performance. Besides, involving the teams in decision-making enhances clarity and gives assurance to all employees.

Increasingly, firms in the UK are using the environmental form of corporate responsibility to reduce their environmental impacts. Although most companies in the country are currently obliged to report the rate of greenhouse emissions, many others are not. Still, they have taken several measures toward reducing their carbon footprint. Although some companies once dismissed the adverse effects of operations on the environment because they perceived them as necessary and unavoidable for business, pollution and too much material consumption posed social, political, and environmental concerns globally. Consequently, environmental CSR took off for most companies in the UK as they prioritized the effects of their operations and processes on the environment. The fundamental objective is to assist businesses in reducing water and carbon emissions. Doing it entails extended re-evaluation of the manufacturing process to identify the wasteful activities and eradicate them from the business plan.

Notably, Unilever UK is an excellent example of companies that addresses social responsibility by carrying out different CSR initiatives. The firm is currently the biggest deodorant manufacturer in the nation. It started compressing the deodorant cans in 2014. The approach reduced the firm's carbon footprint by 25% for each can. It achieved this by reducing the amount of propellant gas by 50% and aluminum by 25%. Taking part in this social responsibility initiative did not affect the quality of the deodorants since they still last for the same duration. However, the cans are half the previous size, allowing at least 53% more cans to fit into the same packaging boxes. The new packaging reduces the number of trucks needed for transportation, which is an effective cost reduction strategy that reduces transport-related emissions. Ethical and social considerations during the design phase helped the firm to reduce its costs and environmental impacts.

At Unilever UK, ethical responsibilities play the imperative role of ensuring that stakeholders get fair treatment from customers and employees. Often self-enforced, the various initiatives of ethical responsibilities guide the actions of the company. Companies focus more on their legal and economic obligations once they meet the requirements that can shift the focus to moral and social responsibilities. The CSR initiatives focus on enforcing fairer employee treatment. Some examples include paying workers higher wages for extra work, offering employment opportunities to members of the local community, and ensuring that the firm meets decent working standards. Rejecting partnership offers with unscrupulous and oppressive companies is a common ethical practice in contemporary organizations.

In addition, ethical principles and practices are applied across all levels of the company's supply chain. It is common for firms to run CSR programs that ensure fair treatment for employees in a sweatshop, such as preventing the exploitation of small-scale farmers by giving correct compensation for their work and yield. Although the ethical programs may be hard to enforce, they are essential in ensuring that the company engages in fair practices and avoids legal and regulatory issues. For example, the cosmetics company Lush based in the UK is renowned for its global activism against animal testing. Aside from the yearly Lush prize that drives innovation to help stop the current anti-testing techniques, the entity is dedicated to engaging only in fair and direct trades. For instance, it consistently purchases its ingredients directly from producers. The approach allows it to ensure optimized working conditions alongside getting reasonable product prices. Besides, it ensures that the company sources the safest and most suitable raw materials for manufacturing, which ultimately guarantees the best quality items for the customers. Most crucially, it uses ethical practices to fight against child labor. One of its codes of conduct mandates that once a manufacturer learns about possible child labor, they should support the victim by providing education and transition programs.
