Stakeholders are those who are directly or indirectly related to the business and also business can influence their life positively or negatively. Businesses success or failure can be result of their prosperity as well. For a construction industry, the number and variety of stakeholder is vast. Here the stakeholders of construction industry are separated into two categories:
Safety management in construction is an essential effort and its realization requires inputs from entire stakeholders across strategy and construction phases. When it is a matter of safety issues, construction site industry is in the most dangerous position. In Bangladesh, construction sites follow a minimal level of safety guideline which is regulated by government. Many unethical practices are seen in these industry whether it is a government project or a private project. And also it has a broader impact on their both external and internal stakeholders. The following chart shows the impact over different stakeholders due to lack of safety procedure practices:
Government
Clients
Local neighborhood citizens
Employees
Local Politicians
Suppliers
Stakeholders Impact Mitigation Strategy:
To meet the standard at most and reduce the deficiency in the process we have to follow following steps to come across stakeholder’s demand:
Step 1: Identifying Stakeholders:
In the first step who are the actual stakeholders of the particular project. For government projects it may cover the whole population of the country but most of the private projects engage little number of stakeholders. Identifying the potential stakeholders who will be effected by the project’s success or failure is most important to reach the level of standards they demand for.
Step 2: Preformed Safety Guidelines:
Before any project starts every project must have some precaution, settled rule which will be strictly followed by the project team. The guideline may also add some more rules during construction project depending on the external factors. All the members of the project team must be aware of the guideline and agenda.
Step 3: Analyze Stakeholders influence:
Stakeholders are differently influenced depending on the need of their own. Every project doesn’t require same sort safety precautions. As example, for road construction using heavy machines and unloading mostly occurs during the night. In building construction, covering the road from the upper surface with tin is an ethical practice of safety.
Step 4: Manage Stakeholders Expectation:
In this stage, project manager should be able to collaboratively work with both organizations capability and stakeholders demand & needs. They have to ensure that proper equipment’s and safety guards are available and project wouldn’t hamper anyone’s private asset of lives!
Step 5: Taking Action:
In the last stage, after generating all the information regarding demand and capability, it is the time to efficiently and effectively implementing the safety issues into the project. And all the actions that has been implemented on a construction project should always be under the surveillance of any expertise.
