Statement of Purpose (msc in Occupational Health and Safety)

It's quite important to understand the fact that people are social beings and others support is must. Therefore people need to contribute as much as possible to their surroundings by being helpful to them. All people had their own way to be helpful for others. I deeply believe that the field of occupational health and safety which has attracted me since my first semester at university, is my way to do something for society, a comprehensive way to be helpful especially for my colleagues and business partner employees.

As it’s already known, Occupational Health and Safety are applicable anywhere there is a workplace, for example, the transportation industry, mining industry, manufacture industry, hospital, etc. Each sector of the industry has its own difficulties based on the process. For maintaining a company as a good HSE performance (zero incident, zero occupational diseases, and zero environmental damage), it needs a very solution for every problem that occurs.

I had a comprehensive introduction to the importance of occupational health and safety through my involvement in the work at the Petrochemical Company in Tabriz, which was a significant milestone in experience insight and understanding the matter in a hasty way. I was employed in the Tabriz Petrochemical Company and different industries to solve occupational health and safety problems in the workplaces both for process and personal safety; Moreover, I maintain good HSE performances (zero incident, zero occupational diseases, and zero environmental damage) in the companies that I've worked in, so every worker my company employees applied safety during their work to be home with their family together.

In addition, I had also tried to have some contribution in the educational development of occupational health by being a guest speaker in some Health centers and small companies as I still wish to be a lecturer at the Tabriz University, which I graduated from, and I hope one day to go back there with fully handed. I will use my broad experience and insight in a theoretical, practitioner and international collaboration through Chevening to gather the most recent and appropriate material to support these activities.

Lastly, I plan to share my knowledge through writing. First of all to fulfill this ambition, I'm going to make a relation between my university here and Tabriz University, which the course of occupational health and safety is relatively new. I am also going to design a blog to share all my studies with my friends in Iran which are doing the same job and ultimately follow my plan to establish a company which is doing the consultant advice and supply all standard PPE for workers which was one of my concerns in my previous workplace. I have also taken a clearer proactive approach to complete various occupational health and safety courses. Through completing these courses, I have developed a superb foundational grounding in the key issues surrounding the methods of safeguarding public health through best safety practices. For instance, I have learned about the ways in which hazards or diseases can be affected and the underlying principles of health legislation. I, however, think that these courses don't necessarily constitute true expert in the field of occupational health and safety something which is keen to obtain through completing the postgraduate study.

The MSC in occupational health and safety at your university seems to offer a unique level of thoroughness in its approach to this field. As a discipline, occupational health is very much an interdisciplinary field of studies and amongst others with occupational health professionals needing a theoretical and scientific knowledge of health issues and expertise in practical issues of policy implementation and legal matters.

I believe that the course would be the ideal starting point from which I can then go on to pursue a career as an occupational health and safety practitioner whether in the public or private sector. I strongly believe that my previous experience, current job, and study experiences demonstrate my ability to succeed in both postgraduate studies and a career in occupational health and safety. I have also held a variety of professional roles that have helped me to develop into an able communicator and problem solver. Since 2017 I've been working as an interpreter at the medical part of Birmingham, GP's and hospitals. Besides carrying out the interpreting work, this role demands excellent communication skills to make sure both involved parties in the conversation fully understand what the other is trying to convey just as it is important for health inspectors to be able to convey vital information to business owners.

Overall, I believe that the MSc in Occupational Health and Safety will be the perfect opportunity to learn more about these matters before I proceed to a career in this most important and interesting of professional sectors.
