The hard thing with drugs us that there is no in between side. It becomes an even trickier thing to try and deal with when taken internationally. It becomes a whole different equation when you add hundreds of countries with different governments that have different outlooks on the topic of recreational use of drugs. Not everyone sees the world through the same eyes, if that was the case then we would be living in the most boring world ever. One of the biggest reasons that the drug trafficking world is thriving is due to the fact that once the drug is taken the use then needs to replenish. There will always be this ongoing need for drugs whether it be recreational or medical. Global Issues says, “The UN estimates that some 200 million people use illegal drugs annually with 25 million being classes as annual users.” On top of the the two sides of recreational use being good or bad there is always going to be another side. Within recreational use being okay, there then is the view that there are possibly problem users and there are possibly healthy users. Now that it can be sort of understood with a look at simply the city we live in now, take a look at trafficking from this city to another, and then possibly out of the country or overseas. Things most definitely complicate and the money definitely multiplies as well.
This may be a weird way of looking at things but take a step back and look at the overall picture of employment. There is much unemployment in almost every country. Now look into the drug trade, think about how much employment it is bringing the world as a whole. There are the manufacturers, the cultivators, distributors, sellers, and users. Think of all the jobs and opportunities that drug trafficking has now offered everyone from country to country, that is a lot of jobs!
Drug trafficking can and is constantly changing and evolving. The more that anyone tries to track what is happening the more that everyone involved with it just goes under the radar and hides. If you are trying to track something secretly and they are operating secretly it almost becomes this group of everyone playing the quiet game, where everyone is waiting for the other person to say the first word. Zero Hedge states, “the market is notoriously hard to track by design, and it is constantly evolving as prices and usage fluctuates.” The very minute anyone finally tracks down any details of a trade, it could have been moved or replanned etc. It has to be extremely hard to try and catch someone that will always be one step ahead of you. If it is not hard it most definitely is a constantly discouraging task.
When thinking about drug trafficking and what it will look like at the end of this year it kind of overwhelms my heart a little. I’m sitting here in starbucks and observing everyone as they walk in and out. There are families, lonely singles, children, workers, old folk, and there is me, a single college student. Looking at these innocent people I would assume none of them have ever even touched narcotics in their lives. However the statistics say otherwise. There could be people here doing drugs today, one some that have done them in the past year, or even some that are wanting to do drugs. You can never ever judge a book by its cover, its not fair and it is usually a wrong assumption. When you think about it in the sense of peoples, real people, actual lives it becomes a whole different picture. According to the DEA fact sheet for 2014 it states, “reducing the availability of illicit controlled on domestic and international markets.” There are so many factors in this picture that whatever you think you have observed for the moment can instantly change in the next minute. Personally if we have not even been able to get a hold on the drug world in the last 5 years, I do not think that something will drastically change in the next 5 months. It is almost stupid to believe that something significant could possibly happen to the drug world int the next 5 months. However I do believe in the next 10 years, the people of the world will choose a side, for or against recreational us, and the government will start to support them.
