Tattooing is forbidden in Islam. It changes the colour of the skin by injecting ink below the surface of the skin.
it is another method of flaunting one’s body. People who does that usually want to show it off. They want to make themselves better, they want to make statements with their body. hey are essentially emotional and too attached with their life.
Islam is against any sort of show off, it encourages people to be modest with what God has bestowed on them. The burkah for ladies , the beard for men all are meant for that, to detach our self to a certain extend from our worldly pleasures and indulgences . To focus on things that matter, the faith, family, knowledge , charity etc. The root of cause of all the problems our world is cursed with is because of selfishness , the worthless indulgences people have.
Islam builds a strong framework of self discipline through the prayers, fasting , etc on a personal level and the Shariah Law on a societal level. One will need such discipline to fight the above mentioned tendencies of self indulgence and attachment.
From my own personal experience I have learned that to enjoy life you have to be detached from it and Islam teaches us to do exactly that. That is why the true believers have peace of mind even when they are through the hardest of hardships. They will be have the epitome of moderation and modesty in all phases of life.
All forms of tattooing are prohibited in Islam, be it of animate objects, inanimate objects, designs, writings, etc. Our beloved Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has declared prohibition of tattooing by cursing both the one who does tattooing and tattooed, consider the following Hadith:
لَعَنَ اللَّهُ ...... وَالوَاشِمَةَ وَالمُسْتَوْشِمَة
Many prohibitions of Shariah are based on the well-being of human beings. In the prohibition of tattoos too, the well-being and health of human beings are considered.
The harms of tattoos are many and diverse. Tattooing requires breaking the skin barrier which carries many health risks. Many of the pigments that are used in tattoo inks are not meant for skin contact at all, in fact some are meant for printer’s ink or automobile paint.
Many a times the colour inks used for tattooing consist of traces of metals which can lead to various health problems including cancer and infections. Injection of colour additives into the skin comes with its health risks.Furthermore, keeping the above mentioned in mind, one should discard the thought have having a tattoo.
