Team diversity is the notable distinctiveness of each person in a team. People are different in their rights, and reason differently depending on different aspects such as religious and cultural background, level of education, and much more. Personality is another element of diversity that can affect team performance. This is because individuals have different ways of reasoning and handling matters. Different people respond differently to the various leadership styles and only their individual constrain can help them to perform their tasks without being affected much. At the same time, there are those who can perform tasks with limited or no supervision, yet others require constant monitoring and assistance for them to complete a duty successfully.
To compose an effective team, a leader would need to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the team members as well as their follower styles to be able to choose the right people for the project. By this, one would have to consider combining individuals with different capabilities to work together on a project (Woong, Hyun-Woo, and Yukyoum, 2015). This means that the team should include people with knowledge and the right skills for the task. There could be chances that some members of the team could not be knowledgeable on certain areas. However, they should be willing to learn from the rest but should also have their own strengths to be able to make contributions to the project. One would also need to include self-driven people that are task oriented so as to avoid incidences of laziness and too much dependence on other people by some members of the team. This means that the leader would need to consider people that understand the importance of teamwork and are willing to participate and complete their roles without much supervision. Nancarrow et al. (2013) argues that 0ne would also need to include people with good communication skills to facilitate information sharing which helps with team participation and performance.
In the workplace, people have the tendency to work in groups, which is mainly based on the factors that draw them together. However, a team can only be formed to facilitate the successful completion of a project and would like to add that the process requires the careful selection of individuals whose competences fits the requirements of the project. I therefore agree that the three core mechanisms are vital to this process. It is therefore important to rate the right people for the task, then design the task and the time limits, as well as the work pattern and the work area of scheme and delegation commission for each member of the team. I agree that diversity plays an important role of adding originality to the group. I would like to add that team identity would define the willingness by each member to participate in the group to achieve its objective.
Focusing on team self-management in teamwork is important when designing tasks. Paying extra attention on challenging tasks and greater task control is necessary for changing the mindset of the team to prepare it for the assignment, which create collective efficacy. Team diversity is an important element in teamwork because it introduces unique characteristics in the group that contributes to the success of the team. The team leader is responsible for enabling the team by assisting them in acquiring values. It is also the duty of the team leader to encourage team participation through effective team communication. I would like to add that good communication skills are essential in the group because this is the only way information is shared appropriately so that the processes continue without disruption. It also helps with building team identity, as members of the group are able to share their feelings and opinions regarding their assigned task.
