Tecnology Impact: How Digital Technology Has Changed The World

The Earth is constantly evolving into a digital world. Day by day, technology advances as new products are created and discovered. Developments enhance the various devices which make daily life easier. Even in a middle-class community, almost everyone can be seen with a cell phone. In a Times of India article, the reporter mentions, “It is difficult to imagine our lives without technology” Currently, digital life is common for everyone. From connecting on social media to advertising a business online, technology is mandatory. It establishes a modern way of living which is easier and favorable for the users. From the 20th century to the 21st century, the demand for technology has boomed drastically. Workers were urged to create better products to attract customers. As time goes on, people completely depend on technology and tend to forget classic methods. Though electronics are user-friendly, they have made a large impact on people, both physically and mentally. These small, yet powerful devices have the potential to change how the world works.

Digital technology has changed the world and impacted almost every industrial field on our planet. New ideas are implemented through the use of more effective sources and tools, which result in an improved outcome. According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, technology is defined as “the use of science in industry, engineering, etc. to invent useful things or solve problems.” The following industries are the most important fields where technology is dominating:

Education

Learning and teaching have been combined with technology to make a digital education for students these days. In many developed schools, they follow the idea of incorporating technology into the curriculum. Personal computers or hand-held tablets are provided by the institute to accelerate the rate of learning and productivity in class. Smart boards and online learning resources are enforced. For example, Google Classroom connects students and their teacher together without any face-to-face learning. They can directly access the study materials online, which is a major asset for absentees. Academics are carried out in a manner where notes can be taken on the computer and projects can be created virtually. These methods contrast greatly from the traditional schooling methods, where it was just a pencil and a sheet of paper in the classroom. This evolution gives students the opportunity to explore individually and share it with others. They gain more knowledge and become independent by learning how to work on their own. In addition, extra courses are offered by open educational resources like Khan Academy. Such online organizations support pupils who are passionate about researching more out of their interest or receiving help from example questions, videos, and step-by-step tutorials. Other educational sources such as interactive simulations, games, and worksheets can be found on the internet.

Health

Technology used in medicine is an important field which is directly involved in our personal lives. Several healthcare sites work with technology to create better cures for patients diagnosed with various disorders. Research is conducted in areas such as biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, where possible solutions could be suggested after analyzing the problems. Technological devices are used to innovate more effective treatment styles, marking a large impact in medical practice. From hospital machines and surgical equipment to artificial organs, different forms of technology have been used. For instance, MRI and x-ray scanners are developed to make the process more comfortable for the patient. Robotics are also slowly enforced in some hospitals to perform complex surgical procedures with exact accuracy. Prosthetics and artificial organs can also be easily prepared by simple 3D printing, where the solid object is additively manufactured by any set material. Finally, better monitoring systems with precise sensors allow the patient to be observed correctly. Information technology has also changed healthcare by utilizing electronic medical records (EMR), where at one point in time, data was physically written down in the doctor’s record book. Latest smartwatches track the user’s fitness and are capable of monitoring health regimes. While investigating for a cure, the scientists examine cells and samples of the disease under an adequate microscope, which gives them the best view for conducting further studies. They can produce new, and more powerful vaccines against the ailments. Overall, medical technology supports the significant cause of saving people by better diagnosis and providing a sustainable and healthy life for them.

Most of the common leisure activities people do during the modern day have been affected by technology. The entertainment industry is drastically progressing due to the advanced devices and techniques which are applied. Several years ago, there were only a limited number of options for fun activities at home. Although, ever since cable network, internet, and satellite TV were introduced, people have more access to a wide range of activities. In addition, gaming consoles and computer technology allows them to enjoy entertainment at home. To demonstrate, collections of movies can be played directly from an online movie-streaming website or by subscribing to a media-service company, such as Netflix. Instead of going to the movies, people can easily create a home-theater by adding a large 4K screen, high-quality speakers, lighting, and comfy couches to an old room! Even certain TV and news channels can be watched for free on YouTube with an internet connection. Young teenagers can effortlessly listen to music from apps like Spotify or Pandora on their phones. Unlike the olden days, the user can choose which song they want to hear by selecting one from a downloaded list. Reading has also been overtaken by technology, where books, magazines, and newspapers can be located online. E-Books can be purchased and stored on a Kindle or downloaded into the computer system. However, some people still prefer to settle down in a cozy corner with the classic paper copy of the book. Finally, the world of gaming has transformed into a serious industry, becoming a high demand for gamers. Special gaming equipment such as keyboards, trackerballs, and other consoles are readily available for purchase. There is no need for people to visit arcades or game-centers because it can all be controlled from home.

Communication

Communication technology has been developed to enable the user to contact a person even from a long distance. For example, email, texting, and calling are the most well-known forms of communication. Wireless smartphones control people’s lives with multiple apps and software. They almost completely replaced landlines and traditional phone lines because of the secured calls that are ensured. Email and instant message apps are used to convey messages by delivering them to the recipient. Emails increase communication among a company’s employees and even allow them to access files outside the office. Recently, several operating systems installed video conferencing apps, such as Facetime, to physically see what’s happening on the other side in addition to hearing the voice. The news industry has seen a big shift because of technology and the fast spread of information by the press and media channels. Social media is one of the most important forms of communication. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are some examples of social media apps which connect users with the rest of the digital world. People publically share their opinions, pictures, and posts to their followers and establish a social life in technology. However, communicating online doesn’t have the same benefit as meeting face-to-face. In-person communication builds the relationship and increases the social skills of a person. Digital marketing communication is also equally important. Using technology to advertise a business, by means of a linked web page or commercial, is much more effective and reliable than regular flyers.

Technology has mainly affected how businesses operate and has created an expansion in the companies themselves. Using digital devices and media to promote a new product contrasts with the handing out of flyers to passerby on the street. Based on the changes in customer preferences, companies strive to improve their goods to satisfy the user’s opinions. In addition, technology increases the productivity in business operations, such as fast communication among workers via email and easy gatherings of customer feedback through an online survey. By accelerating the business activity, companies work faster and move ahead to meet the demands, eventually leading to an increase in the overall profit. As an integral part of the business, many manufacturing companies incorporate automation. This method uses a robot or an automatic computer system to do a task of labor without any assistance. The advantage of implementing this technique is that the company would need to hire a fewer number of workers. But from the other point of view, there are chances of job loss after being replaced with robots. Finally, Information Technology (IT) as a service is rising. They act as back-end support for companies, where programming tasks are carried out. The offices mainly work under software such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc. to code specific programs for the business.

In conclusion, I personally believe that technology has a large impact on our lives and controls almost everything we do. Globally, technology has significantly developed the education, health, entertainment, communication, and business industries. Nationally, the US is one of the leading countries with technological research and advancements. Schools and colleges intertwine technology with academics, and most of the first trials regarding technology are experimented in America, as well. Though there are multiple benefits of incorporating digital devices into the contemporary world, there are several disadvantages in doing so. Some users can get out of control and cross the limit by using technology to an extreme level. This can harm their mental health, making them addicted to smartphones and other electronics. Also, it can physically damage their body because of the radiation waves that can be transmitted from the devices. Not to mention constantly being surrounded by WiFi, which can be quite dangerous to the mind. As a result, the brain’s processing levels will slacken, due to the lack of oxygen. Every human should be exposed to nature and not just be seated in front of the bright, artificial screens. Inhaling fresh air not only relaxes the body, but also powers it by giving more energy. Overall, we, as the users, should be in control of technology. We should learn to take some responsibility ourselves, and stop technology from transforming us into a complete digital human!
