As you get older you will notice that you will meet more people. Whether it be talking to someone for a minute or 2 or 5 hours straight, you have just started a relationship. In the future, this person could just turn out to be an acquaintance, your future best friend, spouse, or just someone you see when you’re walking around town. These are all some form of relationships. But, more specifically, we're talking about teen relationship, things like dating, and friendships in this essay.

Things That Teens Need to Be Careful About in the Relationship

First off, how are teens supposed to deal with special needs relationships? According to hopetreecare.com, there was a study done that says,”60% of adolescents with intellectual disabilities who had been in romantic relationships reported interpersonal violence….” This just shows that teens and people, in general, don’t know how to be in a relationship if one of the 2 people has special needs. We can help stop it though. The same website says that we should be educating kids on how to act with people with special needs. It’ll help kids realize that everyone matters.

Next is how to deal with toxic people. Now everyone knows that one person putting everyone down for no reason other than for their amusement. It can be really hard to deal with that person because they see nothing wrong with what they’re doing most of the time. According to www.heysigmund.com, it’s good to show them your boundaries, let them know how you feel. It also says to “Be empowered by your motives” which means that if you don’t want to be controlled then don’t be. Nothing is stopping you from just standing your ground and not giving in. No one should be forcing you to do something you don’t want to do so just don’t let them.

I also feel that teens need to learn to trust each other more. There seems to be a loss of people who understand the importance of trust in the world and it would be better for everyone if that changed. Everything would be better if we all just learned the importance of trust. The website positivepsychology.com says one of the ways to build trust is to keep your word and follow through. I think that’s one of the things that is causing teens to have such bad trust issues. No one follows through on their word anymore. If people just started keeping their word more than I have a strong feeling that most people would learn to trust again.

Unhealthy friendships are also a problem today. People today are being mentally abused because they are in a friendship or friendships, that just isn’t healthy. Sometimes the best thing to do is just take them out of your life but if you still want to be in their life and visa Versa then there are ways to overcome your differences. Just be honest with them au.reachout.com says to tell them that you don’t like something that they’re doing. Tell them how you feel and how what they’re doing is hurting you. If they can’t stop doing it then leaving each other lives is probably for the best.

Abusive teenage relationships seem to have become more noticeable to me. People get stuck in relationships that are just flat out unhealthy and cruel. Their partner starts to control them and takes over part of their life. Teens need to learn to identify what’s healthy and what’s unhealthy. A quote from psychologytoday.com says,” A healthy relationship is being in any type of relationship that allows you to always be who you are and not change who you are because of someone else.” Unhealthy relationships are the opposite. You are controlled by the other person for their selfish gain. They won’t care about your feelings and your morals, they will only care about what they want. The best thing to do is just cut that person off and if they don’t allow it then get help from someone you trust.

Conclusion

Teenage relationships can get really out of hand and it’s hard to keep them under control. Teenagers are very hormonal and curious. They’re are willing to do almost anything to fit in only to realize in the future that those decisions may have ruined their lives. Teens need to make sure they are friends with the right people and are putting themselves in good situations for the sake of everyone who cares. If teens just learned to be more open minded and accepting then everything would be so much better.
