The biblical document "A Penobscot Origin Narrative" gives you a brief understanding of how "the Man of Nothing," came to be something. It is about how the first lady gives up her own life to fulfill her children, husband, and village needs. This document gives you a general thought on how the Penobscot felt about corn, tobacco, and motherhood. It can also help you get a better definition of what patience is. When Klose-kur-beh hit Earth, he was laying there lifeless and alone. Observing everything he could see in front of him. He was so amazed by the things he was seeing.Soon the brightest light ever took over his beautiful view.
The brightness only lasted for a minute he was then able to see again. But this time he sees a man (the Great Being) standing by him. So he started thinking he could help, without making a sound the Great Being answered his thoughts and was soon giving strength. Klose-kur-beh and the Greta Being both have powers that no one knows about but them. The only difference is the Great Being is powerful, and Klose-kur-beh is just "the Man from Nothing."The first mother heard that Klose-kur-beh was back in town and grew very excited. But her excitement was turned into sadness when her seven children cried to her about being hungry. So she demanded that the children wait for seven moons and they would be full.
The first mother went to her husband and gave him instruction that he must follow. She knew once the seven moons had passed her bones would help the children and everyone else in the village be full and happy. According to Klose-kur-beh, she claimed to be from "the beautiful blade of the plant and that her power shall be great and it shall be felt all over the world; that she was all love." She showed she was all love by allowing her husband to kill her so she could feed her people.
First mother and the Great Spirit both have powers that will benefit the world in a positive way. They both seem to be from Heaven too.The story of the first mother suggests the significance of corn, tobacco, and motherhood was everything. The Penobscot took those things very seriously. The mothers knew they had to provide for their children, so they did everything they possibly could to make sure they were no longer hungry. The children also knew to cherish and be thankful for all the corn and tobacco they were receiving. The corn and tobacco had to be eaten and smoked with memories of the motherhood.
