“There has always been great passion to bring about change.” Some people prefer to spend lives doing the same things and avoiding change. On the other hand, a plethora of people confront and indulge in change. While it is true that many people perceive change differently I believe that modification and adjustments in our situation, mentality, or actions is beneficial to us. Altercation helps us revise, develop, and evolve.
One specific example where change was advantageous to society was The Civil Rights movement. The Civil Rights movement was a push for change with the goal of enforcing legal rights for African Americans. This illustrates to the topic of change because during this period in 1954-1968 there was a huge transformation in the American society. Not only was their now a judicial and legal difference, but the mentality held towards people of color began to shift for the better. This example illustrates that change is beneficiary and constructive because its shows that change is the only way to improve. We need to change in order to move forward.
Another specific example where change was effective in creating favorable circumstances for us was, the women's rights convention held in Seneca Falls, NY 1848. It was proclaimed as a convention to analyze and examine the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of women. This example relates to the topic of change because this event led to the formation of the National Americans Women’s suffrage association and gave the first pathways for the women's right movement to kickstart. It eventually ensured better legal and constitutional rights for women. This example supports the idea that change is a good thing because it shows that change can cause a constructive ripple effect on our society and help us grow.
A third example that helps prove my initial claim is the Stonewall Riots that took place on June 28, 1969. The stonewall riot according to sources was a “series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the gay (LGBT) community against a police raid.” Many Gay Americans in the 1950s and 1960s faced an anti-gay legal system. The Stonewall Inn was a bar that catered to an assortment of patrons and was known to be popular between people in the gay community. Police raids on gay bars were routine back then but when it came to the Stonewall Inn the people resisted. Tensions between the gay community and police eventually turned into to protests and a movement for LGBT members.
To sum everything up change is very important to help us evolve and move forward. There is always room for change and change can make a very big difference. Change can broaden one’s mind and mentality.
