When it comes to earning touch downs and breaking records as far as American football is concerned, one of the names that ring very loud is the Chargers Number 17 shirt, Philip Rivers. The multi-record breaking quarterback has broken more records than most American footballers of his time. Since he was drafted by the Chargers in the 2004 NFL Draft where he signed a 6 year contract to the tune of $40.5 million, he has gone on to surpass Chargers’ Dan Fouts as their All-Time Passing yards leader for ten years after his first starting game in September 11 2006.He has recorded a total of 196 games for LA Chargers from 2004 to 2016 and the San Diego Chargers in 2017. He was in the starting lineup for 192 of those games and attained a record 6,492 attempted passes, 4,171 completed passes, 50,348 passing yards, 166 interception and 342 touchdowns.

He has earned 7 ProBowl selection between 2006 and 2007, was named NFL pass rating leader in 2008 as well as Passing Touchdown Co-leader the same year, he was NFL passing yard leader and Alumni Quarterback of the Year in 2010, A 4-time AFC Offensive player of the Month 2008-2010 and 2014, NFL Completion leader 2013, Comeback Player of the Year 2013BioBorn on December 8 1981 in Decatur, Alabama to Steve (a college football coach) and Joan (school teacher) Rivers, Philip got his inspiration for the game of football from his father who was then the head coach of the Decatur High School. He was mentored and nurtured by his dad to fully embrace the game at a very young age. He played as a starter in college football from 1994 to 199 when he graduated.

On graduating from college, Philip continued his footballing career in the North Carolina University where he landed the playing position of a quarterback in the University’s football team, The Wolf Pack. He was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2000 when he led his team to victory against Minnesota in the Tangerine Bowl. Philip Won 8 consecutive Rookie of the Week Award and was named in the All-American as well as MVP in a second game at the Tangerine Bowl despite losing the game.He played a total of 51 games and recorded 13,484 passing yards, 1,147 passes with 95 touchdowns in his college football career. He was ranked North Carolina 8th All-time Highest.

Rivers is married to his long time high school girlfriend, Tiffany. They were married in 2001 and reside in San Diego County in California. They have quite a large family of 8 children. 6 girls - Halle, Grace, Caroline, Rebecca, Sarah, Claire. 2 boys – Gunner and Peter. Philip Rivers has two siblings by the names Stephen (younger brother) and Anna (sister). His brother plays football at Louisiana State University.Despite, being a high earning Pro football player, Philip lives a very modest lifestyle. Mostly garbed in modest casual attire and cowboy boots, he drives a 2008 model ford. He recently spent an estimated sum of $200,000 to acquire a customized SUV which served as a means of commuting between San Diego County where he and his family resides to LA the new location. The footballer decided against moving his family to the new location and chose rather to travel 6 to 7 hours in the customized SUV daily.
