Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of Britain during World War II who had made great contributions that eventually lead to the victory for the Allies. Churchill was born on November 30, 1874 into a wealthy and famous family at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. At the age of 12, Churchill managed to get into the prestigious Harrow school where he studied and observed military tactics. After the graduation from Harrow, Churchill was enrolled into the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. Upon graduation, he was given a commission as a cavalry officer which began his brief military career where he also published his experience. After his battles in war, Churchill decided to become a politician and manages to become a Member of Parliament. This began his lengthy successful career where he protested against tariffs, obtained significant Cabinet positions, delivered powerful speeches, and planned strategies in the Great War. From 1929 to 1939, Winston Churchill fell into what was known as his “Wilderness Years” where he became politically unpopular, yet he still published articles drawing some light to Nazi terror and Soviet tyranny. By 1938, the public realizes that Churchill’s prediction are coming true, causing Churchill to gain political power once more and the role of Prime Minister. He decisively led Britain into the Second World War in which after allying with the United States and the Soviet Union, he led his country into a surprising victory and saved not just Britain, but all of Europe from Hitler’s dictatorship. After the war, on July 15, 1945, Churchill resigned from his position of Prime Minister and remained active in writing his thoughts and experiences. In his last years, Churchill suffered several strokes and died on January 24 1965.

During the Second World War, Churchill took a strong stand in the war that aided Britain in terms of military and morale; for example, he decided to deprive Germany of steel, which crippled them. Churchill also altered and gave key individuals in significant positions such as Montgomery as Field Marshal. During the war, there was a lot of tension between Churchill and Montgomery as Churchill often disagreed with Montgomery’s military decisions like the amount of administrative vehicles necessary for the Normandy invasion known as D-Day and the speed of his advance. Churchill worked closely with President Roosevelt and Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin in order to plan a war plan for the Allies and a plan for the post-war world of Europe. Another act Churchill performed involved raising the morale of Britain’s with his well-known speeches, such as his “Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat” speech in the House of Commons and his “Iron Curtain” speech.

With the actions he had done, Winston Churchill may not only have been slightly relevant to Anne Frank. Churchill may very well be the reason the world knows of Anne. Churchill’s decisions and collaborations in the world eventually led up to the Normandy landings known as D-Day. Before Anne Frank was captured, she had heard the news of D-Day which instilled hope and faith of her freedom, her ability to leave the confines of the Annex with worry or fear. Furthermore, Churchill’s leadership aided in the Allied victory of World War II. With this victory, people who were sent to concentration camps and managed to survived until that point were freed. Of those many who had survived were Otto Frank, Anne’s father. Because of Otto Frank’s freedom, he was able to publish Anne’s diary of her times in hiding, exposing the world to the hardship this certain Jewish family had to go through. All in all, Winston Churchill provided a great impact in the victory of the Second World War with his inspirational speeches, decisive military choices, and strong sense of politics. Because of this man, Europe has arose from the horrendous dictatorship of the Nazis, and the life of a Jewish girl in hiding was brought into light.
