College is very difficult and troublesome. A common theme throughout college is writing. Writing is very decisive in some courses like humanities, justice, and so forth. Becoming a college writer is a long process which does not occur in an instant, and is definitely not simple. It is important to repeat writing, and continue until we see improvement. In this piece, we see how to become a college writer.
We start this by first developing the strategy. Strategy is very helpful in so many situations beyond just writing, and is the obvious place to begin the process of becoming the college writer. Despite the complexity of the piece, we dissect the prompt and begin to form a plan to answer the prompt with effective writing. The better pieces or work are most often written through in longer times. We then should set a timeline, with a transparent start and finish. Use a calendar to give time to write. Managing the time given, determining the time to write, and forming times to review and edit are key in the objective.
Grammar and proper spelling. The previous sentence is left as an intentional sentence fragment to highlight the importance. However, we must keep in mind to have proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, for all pieces of work at college, since they are incorrect. These mechanics of writing are obviously requirements of college writing. This works with the strategy in the first point of strategy. College students often hurry and ignore some grammar errors due to the lack of time. When keeping the strategy, we could significantly decrease the errors present in the pieces of work.
Citing sources used in your assignments are very important and serious. Since we do not have ownership to some ideas and information, it is critical to reference the sources used. Citations might not be exhilarating to do, but it is helpful and gives respect to the authors of the evidence you recieved. Citations could be used by parenthetical citations, paraphrasing, quoting, annotated bibliographies, and other forms. We do not know everything when we are born, so we cite. If you truly like another person’s work, don’t feel nervous to cite them. “Over 70,000 high school students at over 24 high schools in the United States demonstrated that 58 percent of students admitted to plagiarism” (McCabe). This statistic shouldn’t need to rise. We can support the good information by crediting the original authors, which helps the students, authors, and professors in college writing.
Take time to practice writing to become a college writer. Practice will help you see your strengths and weaknesses. Write often, such as a journal to collect ideas and thoughts. Pencil and papers, and laptops and computers, are very accessible to college students and helps them write at anytime. Developing your writing skills could help you in discussions and presentations. Keep effective college writing a goal, and success will most often then not, occur.
