The discourses within the culture of India can vary from regions and cities. Therefore it is important to take look at the political and gender formations that happened back in the 80s and 90s in order to understand the situation today.
The struggle among the Dalit women has shaped an organization, which defends the rights of these women. Their issues have become a daily agenda on the global public scene. This movement has become a major part of the feminist politics in India. Moreover, has the organization been supported by Dalit women activist who were part of the National Federation of Dalit, which is also called NFDW. Things such as, sexual violence, rape, cast, psychological aberration and domination within the Dalits, is just some of the complex reality of Dalit women society. If we look at the internal factors, has gender position among the Dalit society also an effect on these women. For example Dalit women from Maharashtra are better educated and employed than their counterparts from Karnataka. And on regional conferences, would it be the former who represents Dalit women. According to NFDW this situation not only compel the epistemic privilege over others. NFDW dissociated them from this kind of act. This kind of engagement won’t be tolerated, as a chosen group is not representative of the most Dalit women. On the political level back in the post-Ambedkar period, Dalit women faced exclusion among male Dalit leaders as well. This kind of political marginalization has been condemned by the Dalit women on the regional conferences where only the male dominated the scene. Dalit women do also face dominating male behavior within their society, which is the exact same behavior Dalit men are reproducing against their women, which has been dominated and used against them from other high cast societies in India.
As a reference to this circumstance where women from the low casts did there oppression, it tells that the reality of such as Dalit women is more stricter in terms of sexual violence and against others who stands low in cast and class. The caste factor most likely plays a major role, so it's not just about the internal factors, but also a lot about the external ones. It is difficult to break down the social cultural circle in parts of society when it is rooted in people from back in time.
It can be referred to one of the trials that happened back in 22 December 1963 of Laxmibai Vithal A. S. and her three daughters when they were sexually harassed by stripping and parading, they were beaten with sticks and two of the women thereafter dragged them naked to the village. This incident happened because the son of the Mother (Laxmibai) was told that her son behaved mischief against the employer’s wife. The frustration of this part is that much goes through before a case like this is taken seriously and not least into the court, as this one was . Assuming the fact of the matter itself that it was not only an abusive illegal act that happened, but it shows an insult to the people who live in such circumstances where even the legal courts in some cases cannot fight their right to the tough reality. It appeals to a manifest between the reality and judgment, where there is more compassion for maintaining caste differences, instead of breaking this practice, as the existence of untouchability becomes unspoken or other cases of harassment and violence, where the judgments only rest.
In this context, Hosseini and Welchmann mention that violence against the lower castes is a clear expression of the status of struggle needed to redress the balance by dominating. It's one of the complicated ways people in these circles make sense in their lives. If the individuals act after their own wishes across what the community recommends, it will slowly dissolve the cast system, and thereby it will have no chance to last. When the high castes commit gender violence, it is a shape to maintain their defined identity. In addition, Hosseini and Welchmann claim, that in some cases it is also seen among low cast people, that they actually perform gender violence against their own women, if the girl for example wants to marry a man from a higher cast or act unintentionally beyond the norms of culture.
