Computers plays an essential role in our the world today. It has made things extremely easier. Most BIG business are based on using computers. Despite the fact that it has made things easier, it also has some disadvantages as well. Secretaries for example, are finding that when they are applying for a job, it is essential to have experience in using computers, in this competing world. Instead of people who have a talent to hand write text manually, such people are being replaced by word processors. Many other people are loosing their jobs and are being replaced by machines, for example many workers in factories are being replaced by robots. Another use of the advancements in technology would be photocopiers, in a second you can obtain an identical copy of any piece of work.
In many other business, such as banks, people are being substituted by machines, where calculations can be done automatically instead of manually. This is an advantage to the owner of the business because he then doesn't have to pay a accountant to do the job. Also the work is done much quicker and is more accurate, but this is a disadvantage for the employees because it is getting them out of their jobs.
Peripherals such as telephones modem faxes & scanners has made business much more efficient and communication much more easy. This is important since communication plays a vital part in our world.
The development in computers has also affected the shopping industry. It has made it much easier, and shops now are using bar-code & bar-code readers to automatically identify the item and its price, but the drawbacks of this development is again that people need to be trained to know how to use the machine, and less people are required to work in the shop now since computers are replacing workers, therefore people are loosing their jobs.
Recently, modems were introduced and made very success in the market. They became more and more widely used. They were used by may businesses and especially by reporter who were now able to send their documents and even photographs from anywhere in the world to any destination. Modems were also sometimes a substitute to fax machines and this effected the fax machine industry and resulted in an affect of decreasing the sales of faxes recently since now modems in junction with computers are an easy alternative to the conventional fax machine.
Computers really have no environmental damage to our world, in fact they have become more useful, important and sufficient. Businesses are finding that almost everything now can be done more efficiently using computers; Filming video editing, creating special effects on films, listening to music, playing videos, simulations of almost any sport or activity; car racing, aeroplane driving car driving, even playing games.
People are now finding that they are spending most of their times using computers; at home in the office, at work even in their free time. These machines have become more powerful and more capable, and this has its drawbacks. If many hours are spent by people on computers, this can cause stress both to the eyes and to the mind. People can become 'addicted' to using computer especially children who spend hours on computer games.
People have now also totally relied on machines to 'do the job'. Its quicker, easier and cheaper. The arts and crafts; the 'real' and 'original workmanship and craftsmanship of the working hand has now faded away, everyhing is being replaced by machines. There now no longer remains the 'original hand crafted' product and the unique art of production of the working hand is no longer in the window display in the shops.
