The Ross Gay’s book Catalogue of unabashed gratitude consists of several poems with rich content. The report analysis herein will cover three poems from the book such as “Burial,” “Weeping,” and “Catalogue of Unabashed Gratitude.” The poems coverage insists on the real world we live, its goodness, things people take for granted, declaration of the love of the world, gratitude to everything in life. Gay’s literary works are full of life and are fascinating as they cover valid styles and themes. The central focus in the poems is nature, and it talks about the how death and life are linked in a complete cycle.

The loss can lead to the growth of beautiful things. The poem “Burial,” talks about love and loss of a father. The other two poems also narrate the same topic. “weeping” talks about Emma and Mikayla love for each other, as they cherished each other and at bedtime “both of them slapping their thighs, leaning into each other,” as a show of affection. Both poems have utilized elegy and ode of poetry, which are twinned in one piece as a source of consolation to the tragic loss of beloved. Bothe the three poems insist that every love is doomed to end in a loss. At the termination of it all, people perish.

The poems have praise for the good things on the earth’s surface. In the “Burial,” Gay write on how he used his father’s ashes in the orchard as a fertilizer to grow the plum tree. The poet beseeches for disremembering after demise and is distributed across the garden as a regenerative factor in the soil. In brief, the poems stress on the values of nature. It is the little things in life that we ignore that makes life more interesting regardless of the presence of death. Furthermore, the lamentations are twinned with praises, for instance, the death of father provided fertilizer for agricultural use.

The three poems offer gratitude, an authentication to the books headline Catalogue of unabashed gratitude. The three literary work offer thankfulness to life as a whole regardless of the death scenarios. In the poem “Catalogue of unabashed gratitude,” Gay (2015) passes his “gratitude, which includes, dear reader, you, for staying here with me, for moving your lips just so as I speak.” It is an evidence of endless thankfulness in Gray’s literary works. The three poems have death instances; however, gratitude is still eminent since Gray portray life as cycle involving death. Therefore, people must learn to accept and cherish the little things in life.

Lastly, the structure of the poems is clear and precise. Gray exploited the use of simple language that is easy to understand to convey the message of nature (Kimball, 2013). The stanzas are written in short prose while using easy to comprehend English. “Weeping” has its verses grouped in two lines, while skipping the one line into the next one. “Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude” has several lines forming lines while skipping one line into the next one. Lastly, “Burial” has short structured lines forming the poetry (Newfield and D'abdon, 2015). In all scenarios, the poems are easy to read and comprehend.
