Fall Out Boy was formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of Patrick Stump; lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Pete Wentz; bassist, Joe Trohman; lead guitarist, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band originated from Chicago’s hardcore punk scene, with which all members were involved at one point. Wentz and Trohman formed the group as a pop punk side project, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. Hurley was not the first drummer to be picked up by the band before recording the group’s debut album, Take This to Your Grave (2003). The album became an underground success and the band gained a dedicated fanbase, as well as some commercial success. With Wentz as the band’s lyricist and Stump as the primary composer, From Under the Cork Tree, the band’s 2005 major breakthrough, produced two hit singles, “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” and “Dance, Dance,” and went double platinum, causing the group to become superstars and making Wentz a celebrity and tabloid fixture.

Fall Out Boy received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2006 Grammy Awards. In 2007, the band’s follow up, Infinity on High, landed at number one on the Billboard 200 with 260,000 first week sales. In the album there were two World Wide hits, “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” and “Thnks fr th Mmrs.” Folie à Deux, the band’s fourth album, commercially undersold expectations. Following the release of Believers Never Die – Greatest Hits, the band took a hiatus from 2009 to 2012 to take a break and explore various side projects. In 2013 the band regrouped and recorded Save Rock and Roll, which gave the band a second career number one and produced the top 20 single “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up).” The group’s sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho (2015), released worldwide on Island Records, and produced “Centuries,” a top ten hit and also spawned “Uma Thurman” which peaked at 22 on the Hot 100. The album became the third No. 1 album and the group’s fifth top 10 album.

The band did not always consist of four people though, Fall out boy has a timeline of people changes, such as the three drummers they went through. In the beginning of fall out boy there were 5 players, Patrick Stump as lead singer and later also rhythm guitar, Joe Trohman as lead guitar and backup singer, T.J. Kunasch was rhythm guitar and backup singer, Pete Wentz is a Bassist and a Backup Singer, and Ben Rose, a Drummer. Then about halfway into 200, Ben Rose left to be replaced by Mike Pareskuwicz. Then in 2003 T.J. Kunasch, who was a rhythm guitar, was replaced by Brandon Hamm who Left very soon afterwards, from this point on the band did not have a rhythm guitar to accompany Joe Trohman as lead guitar so Patrick Stump took up the position. Soon after this happened Mike Pareskuwicz left to be replaced with the current drummer Andy Hurley. The band in total released 6 albums, five of which were top ten, and three were No. 1. The first album they ever produced was named Take This To Your Grave which released May 6, 2003. Then on May 3, 2005 they released their second album named From Under The Cork Tree. Their third album, Infinity On High, was released February 6, 2007. Their fourth album was released, Folie à Deux, which did not meet expected standards, didn’t sell enough to make a good profit.

Then after the small break they took in between 2009 and 2013 they came back with the album, Save Rock and Roll, which brought them back into the top charts. Then more recently they released the Album American Psycho/American Beauty, which contains hits like Uma Thurman and Centuries, on January 20, 2015. Soon on January 19, 2018 they will be releasing a new album by the name of Mania and then going on a tour for it.
