Introduction

A network of computers which allows individuals to get access to nearly any information found in any place in the world at any particular time. The internet has had an intense impact on communication, entertainment, politics, business, economy and in major political events (Chesbrough & Prencipe, 2008). The invention of the internet might not have changed the world like the way the plow did, however, it highly likely to be on the same level as the automobile and steam innovation.

The history and invention of the internet can be traced to the development and research division of the U.S military. DARP developed ARPANET in the later years of the 1960s.The network between computer to computer was meant for academic and military research (Chesbrough, 2003). Other computers then started to join the globe in the years that followed that when reaching the late 1970s computer scientists had already developed a single protocol TCIP, which would give computers permission to communicate with other computers networks across any network available.

In essence, these were the coming into existence of the internet, despite a number of different networks across the globe taking ten years or more to adopt the new protocol. The internet is being such a strong invention it’s highly probable we’ve only started experiencing the full impact of the internet invention. Other people fear that the use of the internet could break the ability to socially interact. Nevertheless, internet’s ability to recombine and diffuse information with an impressive efficiency and bond with our local communities, and that it leads to social isolation.

The internet influence will depend on the ways we make use of it. Approximately two billion (Tuomi, 2002) people of the world population are presently linked to the internet. Ever since it’s successful inception the internet world has been tremendously growing, and every day we encounter various changes bound to create digital communication highly secure and much easier.

In the past 10 years alone, the internet has grown extensively and is now a major income earner for a majority of people across the globe. At the moment, the internet world has risen to be the backbone of human being activities. Human populations are accustomed to the internet from the simple tasks of searching the correct meaning of a complicated word or to conducting research any product or service (Chesbrough & Prencipe, 2008). The internet is the avenue that allows finding a solution to any project or object issue within a very short time and Google is taking a significant role in it.

Internet and Education

Majority of scholars concur that the future of education will be basically network based. Individuals can create and disseminate knowledge information through the internet, as well allowing learners to use imaginative ways of making a presentation or conducting research. With the availability of learning resources online, the internet can assume the role of a connector of learners and educationists (MacCormack, 2002).

Using the internet makes sources of information readily available. Additionally, the internet invention has made previously passive individuals engage easily by selecting information they wish to receive, when and how to receive them. An individual can nowadays can choose if to receive some information or stay uninformed if they like; unlike previously when there were more receivers of information conveyed by conventional media. Learners can interactively work with each other without time or physical constraints (Chesbrough, 2003).

Internet and Culture

The emergence of a global movement of culture and cultural globalization is currently on the course and the internet influences a lot. A wide array of opportunities is opening up courtesy of online tools. The internet has brought culture more closely to the people and is making it much more accessible; the internet is promoting the emergence of new types of expression for art and knowledge spread (Oliver, 2001).

In addition to cultural movements and sharing, the internet world is important for innovation that brings growth in all trial fields such as the development of new products, services, and, thoughts, which advance society and knowledge base, and overall human well-being.

Internet and our Relationships

The emergence and successful use of the internet innovations have transformed how we interact with our friends, life partners, and family. In this era, everyone is linked to some other person in more accessible, much faster, and simpler manner; as we perform our daily activities we may also undertake part of our private relationships via our Smartphone’s, laptops, and tablets (Chesbrough & Prencipe, 2008).

The advantage of always-online instant availability is highly important. Therefore, the main advantage of the internet is staying in touch with the people who really matter in our lives.

Internet and Consumer Patterns

With the use of the internet there is a huge chance of getting content, news, and leisure goods, and all manner of benefits happen from e-commerce, that is now a key distribution channel for products and services. It is possible to book airline tickets, get a laptop from China or obtain food at an online food store. The usage of latest applications facilitates new commercial opportunities and supports secure organizational transactions (Oliver, 2001).

Customer access to information doubles, and the customer reviews as to their experience with various goods and services gets adequate focus.

The Internet and the Economy

Among the main factors driving today’s economy, is the internet. Business organizations, individuals and corporate companies cannot afford to remain behind. The internet has fostered growth as well as improved productivity and competitiveness (Afuah, 2001). The internet world invention has provided opportunities for enhancing economic growth. Following the international trend of the internet organizations should strive to internalize their online business.

Contributions to society as an Engineer

A number of events and happenings in the world require engineering intervention to correct them and impact positively on human life. As a trained engineer it would be wise to create innovations that would change the way communities relate to one another and benefit from the developments.

This may include:

· In developing applications which would enable vulnerable members of the society, for example, the homeless, to get to free medical checkups via public telephones (telecommunication engineering).

· Educating members on cheap ways to build affordable homes or construct public recreational facilities using engineering skills learned (building and construction engineering).
