The human condition is the effect something has on a person that effects them for a short or long period of time. The human condition is something that effects someone by a physical or mental problem that has had an impact on that person’s life. Frida Kahlo Frida Kahlo’s artwork subject to human condition many of her art works show the pain she experienced after her bus accident. Frida Kahlo was a Mexican born on the 6 July 1907 and died on the 13 of July 1954. Kahlo mostly did self-portraits after she was severely injured in a bus accident on the September 17, 1925, when she was only 18.
Her art work ‘The Broken Column’ shows her standing naked with what looks to be a hospital blanked. She also has a metal bar which looks to be in replacement of a spin, this bar is from the bottom of her tour so and goes up to her chin with white straps around her holding it in and supporting her. The bar looks to be falling apart with cracks in it. Kahlo has also included pins or nails in her skin this could resemble the pain she is feeling or it could be the pins holding her together. By her standing naked it shows that she is venerable, and there is white dots under her eye to show tears. The ground behind her look as in the was an earthquake this could represent the cracks and rips in her life and after an earthquake the ground never goes back to the way it was, this could be showing how she felt after the accident like she was broken and couldn’t go back to how she was.
Frida Kahlo has also done a painting called ‘Tree Of Life’ this painting was made in 1946. The media she used was oil, Masonite. This panting shows two sides to Frida Kahlo’s life, the good and the bad. It wasn't all good after the accident and she shows the various operations she had to go through. The light side and dark side displayed in the painting shows what she has gone through on the left and what everyone sees on the right side. Frida expresses good and bad times in her life, letting us see her fully and to help us understand what she is going through. The Frida on the right is holding a sign that says ‘Tree of Hope, Remain strong’ this can be interpreted as Frida Kahlo is staying strong and still has hope though her circumstances. The Frida Kahlo of the left has a hospital blanket with her spin exposed/cut, this shows her spin operation she had. The blanket was also shown in her other artwork ‘The Broken Column’, this could be to show something that she has been around or had with her every time she has been in hospital. She is also nude in both artworks and is only covered by this blanket, by her being nude she might be showing venerability. She has used bold lines in both artworks to resemble the cracks in the ground as the scars on her body.
