The study in ICT based library and Information Resources and services: a case study of Karnatak Arts, Science and Commerce College, Bidar. The present study demonstrates and elaborates the primary way to learn about ICTs, the purpose of using ICT enabled library resource and services, to assess to what extent users are utilized ICT based library services and facilities, various aspects of Internet usage, favorite search engines, and problems faced by the users in using the ICT in libraries. Online database services and infrastructure facilities. Suggestions have been given to make the service more beneficial in the library users of Karnatak Arts, Science and Commerce College, Bidar.

Introduction to ICT

ICTs stand for information and communication technology and defined for the purposes as a “diverse set of technological tools and disseminate store and manage information” These technologies include computers the internet broad casting technologies (Radio and Television) and telephony.

The accelerated adoption and use of information and communication technology has results in the globalization of information and knowledge resource bibliographic database, Ful-text documents, remote access resource are always available in KASC College library center.

KASCC library is beginning to use computers in the early 2000s. The KASC College library has installed the library software package, e-Lib library automation system equipped with a network server and a number of computers distribute in a local area network (LAN) within the different sections of library center, most library database information and bibliographic database are used the Gulbarga University library and INFLIBNET center using the through remote access in digital library center. These database information centers are full automation and D-Space software.

Importance of ICT

The meaning of ICT itself is the set of activities that facilitate by electronic means the processing, Transmission and display of information.

Nowadays, ICT has an important role in the world since we are how in the information age is with ICT. ICT has become a powerful tool in society. The ICT also involving in our daily life, use in the internal interest. Therefore the number of ICT, user in the world is rapidly increasing as well as in world. The lack of appropriate information at the right time will result in low quality research works and waste of time to pursuer information and even to do research which actually others had done.

The first reason is that ICT has become one of the major interest in the entire world, ICT has a great impact for our daily life, cannot be separated with our daily life. For example, now we can read our local newspapers using the online newspapers while we are abroad. Another example is we still can connect to our family, relatives or colleagues while we are abroad by using the electronic mail, messenger, call conference or video conference.

Information era digital computer and networking has provided current information knowledge to users. ICT has bring lot advantages for all users it enabling million transaction and share to information, share to happen in a early and fast way therefore for improving the current & emerging citizens valuable knowledge and computer skill development and supporting the economy.

ICT is one of the parts of the human need, ICT can give a big help in improving quality of human life. ICT can be use as the learning and education media, the mass communication media in promoting practical and important issue, such as the social area. ICT provide the wider knowledge and information which can be help in gaining and accessing information. ICT is complex and quickly changing and it is confining for many people, it is so pervasive in the modern world that everyone has some understanding of it but those understanding are often wildly divergent.

In the 21st century an ability to work with information and communication technology (ICT) is becoming as essential to education life and workplace, success as reading, writing and arithmetic, ict digital literacy should be considered a basic skill by education system.

Developments are ICT have made significant impact on all spheres of human life. The impact has been rather prominent in care of service activities such as banking health transportation, education and library.

For the libraries ICT has tremendously changed the management of resource or housekeeping operations as well as the way services are delivered while general it application tools and integrated library management system are largely used in housekeeping operation like acquisition, catalogue, circulation control, serials control ect. Internet has been used extensively as a resource as well as a tool to deliver the library and information service in this lesson we will study.

ICT based Library Activities (Resources)

Circulation

Library circulation or library lending activity is one of the parts of library management. This circulation comprises the activities around the lending of library books and other materials (such as a lending of books, checking in materials, return of books creation of borrowers packets, charging & receipt overdue fine, send out overdue notice borrowers collecting statistics on library users transition reports on day wise renewal of lending of books and all library books is active and circulation. A circulation or lending department is one of the key of department of library.

The main library center service point is the circulation desk usually found mars the main entrance of a library. It provide the lending of books return of lending items renewal of materials and payment of times and no due are also handled at the circulation desk.

Acquisition

Library acquisition is a one of the parts of library management activity. The acquisition is responsible for the selection and purchase of library needs for books journals magazines or resources. The acquisition is arranged for standing orders and select individual titles or resources.

The library acquisition to procure and process new books from different sources. It covers all function to enhance the collection development of a library. Titles can be procured either through request from members of books send by suppliers or approval. It checks to detect duplication of records in the very beginning as is refers the new entry to the records in catalogue of library holding. Acquisition is providing the annual reports contact acquisition staff, general statistics function or acquisition budget information and fund transfers.

Catalogue

The library catalogue is an essential tool. Catalogue and classification are basic processes in organizing information. Cataloguing is the process of describing materials so it can be indentified while classification is the assignment of a call numbers that places materials in order by subject. It directs the users to specific subject and groups books on the some or related subjects. This cataloguing process to easy access to materials users and is the process of creating a metadata representing information, catalogue provide information such as creator names, titles and subjects terms that describe resources.

Cataloguing and classification is simply a way of organizing library materials in such a way that the retrieval will not be difficult for library users. Therefore there is strong need to organize library collection for easy access to users because if the collections are not organized the collections will be useless. Cataloguing is providing to make location of library materials easy to access and save the time and space of users. Facilitate easy access to the materials enhance effective utilization of the materials and make the library attractive to its users.

OPAC

Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) as the name suggests is catalogue of all the materials held by the library. The includes books details such as a titles author publishers accession numbers of particular books and subjects call number, ISBN numbers, these are search in OPAC.

The OPAC activities most need and usually in library easy can be search of books titles authors publishers it can be save the time of users.

Data processing

Data entry processing is one of the parts of library management activities. Data entry processing is a complete detail of books entry such as titles of books, author of books publisher of books, year of publishing of books subject of the books supplier of books call number of the books and edition of books ISBN of books subclass of books these are fields of the data entry processing. These fields are entry in the library software users will be easy access and the basic knowledge of ICT.

Bibliography

Bibliography is one of the parts of library management activities. The bibliography process is a all library reference information and research information a list of the written sources of information on a subjects books journals magazines newspapers and theses and dissertation they may show what works the author used in writing the articles of books or they may list works that a reader Wight find useful.

Reference Sources

Reference source is one of the parts of ICT based library management activities. Reference source is showing the list of reference books when I entry the books in software is classify the text books and reference books this showing easy to access users and find the reference books.

Document Delivery

Document delivery is one of the parts of library management activities this document delivery is very useful of the staff and students. This document delivery is showing the everyday transaction reports such an issue of books, return of books, renewal of books list of which much books are transaction of everyday monthly class wise, yearly.

CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read Only Memory) made profound impact on libraries. CD-ROM technology has unique features of large storage capacity and its iterative search facility. Access to web based resources of Dspace Open Software: this is one of the most popularly open software and very useful of tools of institutional repository, DSpace preserves and enables easy and open access to all types of digital content including text, images, moving images, mpegs and data sets.

Library automation is the process which needs proper planning, timely implementation and periodical evaluation.
