Most of the football clubs owners sucks their managers due to poor performance of the due in a league. But is this true that the managers are the reasons for the poor performance and if sacked the results of the club changes for better. In this paper looks into whether the performance of the club is improved by sucking the manager mostly when the league is on going. In this case, the performance of the various team of the English Premier League, where managers experiences sacking due to poor performance of the team in a given period of time will be analsysed as an example. This is specifically because, in English Premier League, some of the clubs improve the performance when manager is sacked and replaced with a new. The hypothesis for study is that, the performance of a club improve when a manager is sacked due to poor performance.
The data is collected from the analysis of the performance of the Cristal Place and Leicester City football clubs of England. The data comprises of the first 30 games of the 2016/2017 season. For every win, the team scores 3 points, draw 1 point and loss 0 point. The tables below shows the performance of the two clubs under the management of the manager before and after the sacking. The graphs represent the performance of the two teams as they proceed with the season. The graph is ploted, game played against the point scored by the team. The cummulative point are total point the team is scoring after every game it play.
Compiling and analysing of the data require mathematical processes to come up with best conclusion of the project. The mathematical processes include, modelling, probability, statistics and algebrac processes. In our case project, there is application if probability, statistcs and modelling. Drawing of graph to represent data is the modelling part of the project. Drawing of the graph should be very acculate to minimise error when analysing the data. The values are well represented on the table which is used to draw the graph as below.
From the graph the gradient of the line before the sacking of the manager is lower compared to the gradient of line after sacking the manager. Gradient is the ratio of the change of score to the corresponding change of the game played. Y=mx+c where the gadient is the value of m. From the graph before the sacking of the manager, taking two point, that is when game played are 3, the corresponding scores is 4, that is. (3,4) and when game played are 21, the corresponding scores is 21, that is. (21,21). From this evaluate the gradient as shown.
M = change in scores/ change in game played =(21-4)/(21-3)=17/18=0.944
After sacking the manager the gradient is continuos as the new manager shows good run from the start. The gradient of the line of the signing new manager is determine from the following to point, (26,24) and (30,36). Therefore the gradient is determine as shown below for the performance after sacking of the manager.
Gradient = (36-24)/(30-26)=12/4=3
Comparing the gradient of the two sides of the graph which represent the performance of the team before and after sackig the managers it shows that, mathematically, the performance of the team improves when the managers who is experiencing bad run is sackedand replaced by a new manager. In this case, some of the factors are taken to be constant when determining the performance of the team. For instance, the motivation of the manager and prayers, the experience of the players and also the relationship between the manager and the prayers. Another factor taken constant is that the teams that the leicester plays with all have equal weight in ground.From the 25th game where the manager is sacked, the graph of point score for every game is maintain at 3 showing that the team is having good run through. Through probability, comparing the graph, there is likelihood of the Leicester winning the next game.
There is use of a lot of assumption when drawing up this conclusion. It is assummed that after sacking the manager, the next incoming manager will always have a good runs through out the game he manage. In some case this might be true as the manager might be best but the team players are of low quality compared with the players from other team they are playing with. In this case the manager does the best he can to raise the regression mean of the team but the players are unable to catch with idea from the manager. Instead of sacking the manager in this case, the manager is given more time to let the players and manager catch each other to improve the performance of the team.
In most cases, the new managers that are employed after sacking new one are those who had been sacked from another for having bad run during his managerial work. Therefore we find that it is believed that once a manager who is expriencing bad runs is employed to a club experiencing bad runs, improves the performance of the club. This case,it show that not the manager who is causing the club experience bad runs but other factors like motivation of the players and their relationship as a club. The unity of the team member and the manager plays a very vital role on the performance of the club. This will help the club understand well their weaknessess that are causing the bad runs and they way forward to deal with those challenges they are facing. Where they find that the manager is the cause on the challnges due to poor management, it is then advisable to sack the manager and look for another one who has more skill than previous manager.
As evident from above discussion and analysis, it is evident that the performance of the team increases upon the sucking of the team manager. Nevertheless, there are still people who tend to think that from the low point (after poor perfomance), there is probability of the team to regress to its normal performance. In other words, when a team is in such a point, whether it retains or sacks its manager, improved changes are likely to be experinced like “teacakes.”
