We as individuals are shaped into the person that we are today through experiences and challenges. A person can be molded into the person they become by the influence they receive from those surrounding them. Individuals tend to value and respect the opinions of those that they admire and value. Ever so often individuals become close with other individuals who have a very distinct personality from them. For example, the film Good Will Hunting is about a young troubled South Boston adolescent who is trying to figure out a suitable place for himself in this world. The film captures the eventful journey of Will Hunting as he is demanded to go through psychotherapy as a replacement of serving jail time. As a child Will lived in foster care where he suffered constant physical abuse. He lived a life of constant rejects and betrayal, he never truly had a person who he can trust or comprehend him since he was always a singled out individual who lived in loneliness. Will was a very intelligent intellectual who decided to work as a janitor at MIT, he was a 20 year old mastermind who had an undiscovered potential. Therefore, because of Will’s rough past he had many trust issues and psychological disorders.

Furthermore, a professor at MIT discovered that Will has an astounding mathematical ability. The professor discovered his ability when he caught Will solving a really advanced mathematical equation that was left for the students of physics at MIT. Later on, Will was arrested by authorities when he decided to attack another police officer. At Will’s trial, Professor Gerald Lambeau was able to interfere with his trial and propose a proposition. Professor Lambeau’s proposition was for Will to avoid jail time and be under Lambeau’s care while he studied mathematics and for him to be observed by a psychotherapist who will help him with his deterrent personality and his anger issues. Will agreed to his proposition and began to undergo his sessions with several psychologists due to him scaring them away and giving them a hard time. Eventually he met a close friend of Lambeau, Sean Maguire, who happened to also be a psychologist. Maguire is not afraid of Will, he actually had the courage to talk back to him and the ability to make Will break allowing Maguire to peel back the layers and have a glimpse of what it was like to be Will Hunting. Will is a very hesitant to be adventurous and engage in new activities that potentially push him out of his comfort zone. Will and Maguire begin to bond due to them being able to understand one another because they both shared trouble past. Maguire shares his own experiences with Will making this exceed the limits of normal therapy, but he knew that if he did not make those modifications he would have not been able to get through Will. Maguire is basically the closest thing to a father figure that Will has ever had, he is the one who questions and challenges him. Maguire began to teach Will the understatement of a perfect experience and the will to live in the cruel world that broke him.

Moreover, Will’s social interactions were restricted due to the abusive childhood that he experienced, but he lives his life to the fullest with his best friend Chuckie Sullivan, and friends Billy, and Morgan. He did not have a large group of friends but he would do anything for is buddies that he lived his childhood with and considered family since he really did not have anyone that was remotely close to him. Chuckie is the closest to Will out of his small group of friends, he drives Will to work every morning. Chucky cares for his best friend, he recognizes the brilliance that he had and tries to persuade Will into doing something more extraordinary that has importance for his well being. Chuckie is a very supportive and respectful towards Will. For example, when he notices will getting ready for a fight, he goes to back him up, he sees one of his other buddies and tells him, ‘Let me tell you something; if your not out there in two fuckin seconds, when I’m done your next.’ Chuckie understands what it is to have someone to back you up, especially when someone is living on the street. It is very comprehensible that Chuck is not in the same genius level as Will. Will is always trying to hide how brilliant he really is. Chuckie is an amazing friend that understands that Will needs to get away from their neighbourhood even if it meant leaving the place they spent their childhood, he knows that he needs to do great things with his very unique talent.

In addition, the relationship between Skylar and Will was increasing rapidly, although they did experience some tough times. They are both very enlightened and well informed about one another, particularly with the qualities, ambition and needs that they are looking for to be in a romantic relationship. The night that Will and Skylar meet they started to interact almost instantly, Chuckie tried to amaze Skylar, but instead was mocked and bullied by a Harvard student. Will overheard the comotion, and started to defend his best friend Chuckie and eventually embarrassing the Harvard student, meanwhile exposing how intelligent and amusing he was. When the rude guy from Harvard left he and Skylar expressed their feelings of loath and disapproval of many students that attend Harvard and also criticised the school. After having a small chat they both went their separate ways, but later on Skylar asked for Will’s number. They both noticed that they had similar personalities, also noticing that they were both obviously attracted to one another. On their first date they discussed everything they had in common while dining at a fast food restaurant, they also shared various personal information about one another. Although Will felt comfortable with Skylar he tried to disguise what he believed were his flaws, but really he was truly masking the foundation of his identity. He doesn't want to insinuate to Skylar that he is a vulnerable person. He later confesses his truth, but it was not the best moment and it left him feeling very guilty and vulnerable. He was not able to cope with all the emotions that he was experiencing. Will could not comprehend Skylars accost of being honest of his own judgment that people only want to use and take advantage of him. He was determined to push her away because he felt threatened by her. Even if he kept pushing her away Skylar was able to give Will many experiences to demonstrate to him that he is worthy of love and not the unlovable person he accuses himself to be.

In conclusion, Will embraces his intelligence and decides to leave his hometown to chase after Skylar. He decided to leave at night, because he did not want to go through the hard goodbyes from those that he cared about. After his last meeting with Migure, Will finally felt the confidence that he never had. Which then allowed him to come out of his shell and chase something that he felt passionate about. Even though, it was hard for Will to leave his past behind everyone knew that he was going to be okay.
