This paper, by using information and sources, will describe the work, legend, and contribution of the World Wide Web to the world made by Tim Berners-Lee. The World Wide Web is a central and necessary part of our day-to day lives as of now, and has placed a crucial role in our ability to thrive as a species. Because of the actions of Berners-Lee, we have catapulted into the modern age and will only progress more quickly from here.

Tim Berners-Lee, as a younger person in Great Britain, attended Emanuel School. Being the bright and marvelous man he is, he moved onto the prestigious Queen’s College of Oxford University from 1973 to 1976, where he received his degree in Physics. He used his intimate knowledge of computing and networking to later compile all of the elements that would become the World Wide Web (with the help of Robert Cailliau). As of right now, he is very involved with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, both as a scholar and a role model. He works and encourages students about his work, and also does business with companies to help further drive the industry forward (Longer Biography of Tim Berners-Lee, 1994).

When Tim Berners-Lee finished his higher education, he held many positions with several employers. Initially, he worked for a printing firm. At the beginning of the next decade, 1980, Berners-Lee began working for the European Organization for Nuclear Research, otherwise known as CERN. He left CERN relatively quickly; he was only employed for six months or so. He went on to work at a computing company. It was after leaving this company that he returned to CERN, and created his biggest masterpiece. It was here that Tim Berners-Lee developed the World Wide Web. As mentioned before, he is also extremely involved with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has founded World Wide Web Consortium (or W3C, if you will), which helps to constantly build upon and better the World Wide Web (Biography of Berners-Lee, 2011).

Berners-Lee, as mentioned before, is credited with inventing and compiling the World Wide Web. The World Wide Web is a system that allows us to move freely through the internet and move between pages efficiently. Tim Berners-Lee has made it a point to mention that most, if not all, of the elements for the World Wide Web had already existed. His greatest feat is having the intuition and the innovative attitude to compile them all and change the course of everything forever. Were it not for the work of Tim Berners-Lee, we would not be able to utilize many of the technologies that we currently use today, and the world would be a completely different place (Biography of Berners-Lee, 2011).

Because the World Wide Web has helped humanity in such an unfathomable way, it is easy to guess that Tim Berners-Lee has received many awards. His most notable award is the Japan prize from the Science and Technology Foundation of Japan. This prize honors many of the great and amazing inventions and inventors. He has won the “Young Innovator of the Year” Award from the Kilby foundation, and Duddell Medal of the Institute of Physics, the Charles Babbage award, the Millennium Technology Prize, the Die Quadriga Award, and many others. His contribution to this world was so drastic and game-changing that he was even knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2004, which is an honor that is only bestowed upon the most exemplary of people. Tim Berners-Lee is one of the most impressive and significant men in the modern world. Every award that he has won, he deserves completely, as he is a true legend and a wonderful person (Longer Biography of Tim Berners-Lee, 1994).

As someone who uses the internet, and invariably the world wide web, daily, I feel honored and humbled by the amazing and fortuitous achievements and innovations of Tim Berners-Lee. Many people whom I have discussed technology with are unaware of his accomplishments, and I am happy to be able to spread what I now know about this great man. Tim Berners-Lee dedicated his life to doing something bigger than himself, and he absolutely succeeded. I will never forget about him whenever I use the web, and I am truly blessed to have discovered what this person has done for us.
